The flow stress behaviour of a directionally solidified nickel-base superalloy, MAR-M247, is presented through the combination of experiments and crystal-plasticity simulations. The experimental campaign encompassed quasi-static and dynamic testing in the parallel and perpendicular orientation with respect to the columnar grains. The material showed low strain-rate sensitivity in all cases.

We present an application of data analytics and supervised machine learning to allow accurate predictions of the macroscopic stiffness and yield strength of a unidirectional composite loaded in the transverse plane. Predictions are obtained from the analysis of an image of the material microstructure, as well as knowledge of the constitutive models for fibres and matrix, without performing physically-based calculations. The computational framework is based on evaluating the 2-point correlation function of the images of 1800 microstructures, followed by dimensionality reduction via principal component analysis.

Differences in the diagnostic value of various electrocardiographic (ECG) voltage indices for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are yet to be elucidated. The objective of this study was to examine the strongest predictor within ECG voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in HCM to be applied in cardiovascular examination of young people. The electrocardiograms of 36 healthy individuals with high voltages, mimicking HCM (i.

The case history of a baby girl suffering galactosemia is described. This was due to a deficit of galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase, with symptoms during the neonatal period consisting in weight loss, vomiting, jaundice and bleeding syndrome. From the twelfth day of life, a strict diet without galactose was imposed and controlled by measuring galactose and Hb A1 in serum.
