: Differentiation between uncomplicated and complicated postoperative wound drainage after arthroplasty is crucial to prevent unnecessary reoperation. Prospective data about the duration and amount of postoperative wound drainage in patients with and without prosthetic joint infection (PJI) are currently absent. : A multicentre cohort study was conducted to assess the duration and amount of wound drainage in patients after arthroplasty.

The Reliability of Successive Scheimpflug Imaging and Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography Measurements Decreases With Increasing Keratoconus Severity.

Purpose: This study assesses the reliability of successive measurements of tomographic parameters in different keratoconus (KC) stages with 2 different devices.

Methods: A total of 125 eyes (13 controls: 24 eyes, and 73 patients with KC: stages 1|2|3|4, n = 24|24|26|27 according to Topographical KC Classification) were repeatedly examined 5 times with the rotating Scheimpflug tomograph (Pentacam HR, Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) and an anterior segment optical coherence tomograph (Casia 2, Tomey, Nagoya, Japan). Outcome measures included 1) mean anterior (KA) and 2) mean posterior powers (KP), 3) mean anterior (AC) and 4) posterior cylinders (PC), 5) maximal anterior power (Kmax), and 6) thinnest corneal thickness (TCT).

A multicentre cluster-randomized clinical trial to improve antibiotic use and reduce length of stay in hospitals: comparison of three measurement and feedback methods.

Background: Various metrics of hospital antibiotic use might assist in guiding antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).

Objectives: To compare patient outcomes in association with three methods to measure and feedback information on hospital antibiotic use when used in developing an AMS intervention.

Methods: Three methods were randomly allocated to 42 clusters from 21 Dutch hospitals: (1) feedback on quantity of antibiotic use [DDD, days-of-therapy (DOT) from hospital pharmacy data], versus feedback on (2) validated, or (3) non-validated quality indicators from point prevalence studies.

Low-grade dysplasia in Barrett's esophagus: overdiagnosed and underestimated.

Objectives: Published data on the natural history of low-grade dysplasia (LGD) in Barrett's esophagus (BE) are inconsistent and difficult to interpret. We investigated the natural history of LGD in a large community-based cohort of BE patients after reviewing the original histological diagnosis by an expert panel of pathologists.

Methods: Histopathology reports of all patients diagnosed with LGD between 2000 and 2006 in six non-university hospitals were reviewed by two expert pathologists.

Quality of Barrett's surveillance in The Netherlands: a standardized review of endoscopy and pathology reports.

Objective: The quality of Barrett's surveillance relies on an adequate endoscopic inspection, obtaining a sufficient number of biopsy specimens, good communication of the endoscopic findings to the pathologist, and an accurate description of the histological findings by the pathologist. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of Barrett's surveillance in daily practice in The Netherlands.
