Longitudinal assessment of health-related quality of life in patients with adult congenital heart disease undergoing cardiac surgery.

Objective: The study objective was to assess longitudinal postoperative health-related quality of life among patients with adult congenital heart disease facilitated by a novel electronic medical record-based patient-reported outcomes follow-up platform.

Methods: From January 2022 to October 2023, 559 patients with adult congenital heart disease underwent cardiac surgery; 491 (88%) completed a 23-element health-related quality of life questionnaire covering 3 domains (physical, mental, and social) yielding 911 assessments. Automated questionnaires via electronic medical record were sent at 7 days preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.

An exploration of the relationship between active learning and student motivation in STEM: a mixed methods study.

Much of the research on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students' motivation measures the relationship between student motivation and academic outcomes, focusing on the student's mindset. Our mixed-methods research takes a different approach and considers the relationship between student motivation and instructional practices. Teaching practices and student motivation were analyzed simultaneously in undergraduate Biology classes using a self-determination theory-based survey to measure students' motivation during courses that were observed using the Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS), and observation notes were collected to document instructor and student behaviors.

Healthcare Providers' Perceptions about the Role of Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Services in Substance Use Outpatient Treatment.

Addressing patients' religion and spirituality (R/S) needs has been associated with positive health outcomes. However, despite receiving extensive training in spiritual assessment and care, chaplaincy services are primarily confined to inpatient settings, with few studies occurring in outpatient settings. The study sought to understand mental health providers' views about what shaped provider and patient motivation to engage in R/S discussions and seek referrals to chaplaincy services.
