Impact of a Multi-Component Home-Based Physical Therapy Intervention on Cognitive Outcomes: Results From the CAP Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: Differences in cognitive outcomes for two home-based 16-week interventions after usual rehabilitative care post-hip fracture were examined.

Methods: Community Ambulation Project randomized controlled trial included 210 hip fracture participants. Interventions: Specific multi-component (PUSH) included strength-, balance-, function-, and endurance-based exercises; non-specific active control (PULSE) included seated range-of-motion exercises and sensory transcutaneous electrical neurostimulation.

Implementation of Function Focused Care for Acute Care Using the Evidence Integration Triangle.

Background: The purpose of this study was to test the impact of Function Focused Care for Acute Care Using the Evidence Integration Triangle (FFC-AC-EIT) on hospitalized patients living with dementia.

Methods: This was a clustered randomized clinical trial including 12 hospitals from two states and 455 patients living with dementia. Hospitals were randomized to FFC-AC-EIT versus FFC Education Only.

The Meaningful Engagement Assessment for Residents with Dementia in Assisted Living Settings.

Providing meaningful activity is a critical dimension of person-centered care for residents with dementia in all settings, including assisted living. Defined broadly as participation in physical, social, and leisure activities that provide meaning and value to the person and are tailored to individualized interests and preferences, meaningful activity has implications for well-being, mental health, cognition, and physical function. Assisted living residents with dementia would benefit from having more opportunities to engage in meaningful activity.

Factors associated with eating performance in nursing home residents living with dementia and other comorbidities.

Background: Eating performance is the functional ability to get food into the mouth and chew/swallow it. Nursing home residents with dementia commonly experience compromised eating performance and subsequent consequences. Prior work examined the association between resident eating performance and their cognitive and functional ability.
