We present a portable polarimeter capable of real-time visualization of partial and fully polarized light over a broad band of wavelengths. Our system utilizes a Raspberry Pi computer with a low-cost data acquisition "HAT" and an integrated photodetection circuit. Wide bandwidth operation is achieved through digital calibration of an arbitrary retardance waveplate presented herein.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe assessed the performance of OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 on United States Medical Licensing Exam STEP 1 style questions across the systems and disciplines appearing on the examination. ChatGPT-4 answered 86% of the 1300 questions accurately, exceeding the estimated passing score of 60% with no significant differences in performance across clinical domains. Findings demonstrated an improvement over earlier models as well as consistent performance in topics ranging from complex biological processes to ethical considerations in patient care.

The Net Zero Emissions (NZE) concept has created momentum for climate commitment made by national governments, cities, industries and individual companies. However, evidence of tangible decarbonisation is limited. Here we identify precarious differences between the scientific origin of NZE and its social representation in the wider public and explore the consequences of the resulting science-action gap for achieving global climate goals.
