Article Synopsis
  • - The Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) requires hospitals to use a geriatric screening tool called GeriNOT during inpatient care, particularly for patients with hip fractures, to identify potential health risks.
  • - A study evaluated the effectiveness of GeriNOT on 821 geriatric patients (average age 81), examining their needs for post-inpatient care and risk for readmission, with a focus on different injury types.
  • - Results indicated that all groups had GeriNOT scores above the critical threshold, with the hip fracture patients having the highest average score, suggesting higher vulnerability that could benefit from targeted intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding the dynamics of fishing fleets is essential for ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM), focusing on both sustainability of target species and minimizing impacts on habitats and non-target species.
  • Increased large whale entanglements in Dungeness crab gear highlight the urgent need to address whale-fishery interactions on the U.S. West Coast.
  • Our modeling of crab fishing patterns in Oregon and Washington identified consistent trends influenced by various economic, environmental, and social factors, emphasizing the importance of integrating fisheries behavior into management strategies.

A dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (Dµ-SPE) method for the preconcentration of trace metal ions (Pb, Cd, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) on graphene oxide with the complexing reagents neocuproine or batocuproine is presented here. Metal ions form cationic complexes with neocuproine and batocuproine. These compounds are adsorbed on the GO surface via electrostatic interactions.
