The development of photoactive systems to solve serious environmental problems is a key objective of researchers and remains a real challenge. Herein, n-p heterojunction ZnO-based composites were developed to achieve better photocatalytic performance in methylene blue (MB) degradation under natural solar irradiation. The hydrothermal technique was used to synthesize zinc oxide (ZnO)/metal oxide (MO) composites, with a molar ratio of 1 : 1 (MO = MnO; FeO; CuO; NiO).

The search for low-cost, versatile methods, producing regulated properties of the final products, has thus become extremely relevant. We have previously reported a bulk-scale process, dispersing granulated metal oxide nanoparticles, of both unary and multi-component nature, in a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) polymer matrix, establishing a reference in the produced films' optical properties, due to the high degree of homogeneity and preservation of the primary particle size allowed by this method.

The present work is dedicated to the synthesis and characterization of a novel semiconductor (10-OPIA) possessing mesogenic properties, which allows better control over charge transport in the bulk of a material. A novel anthracene-based molecule is characterized for its potential applications: frontier molecular energy levels are studied by optical spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry and compared to values obtained via ab initio calculations.

In order to do so, flaxseed gum was extracted by both classical magnetic stirring method and ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE). As a function of time, protein content, gum yield, pH values were evaluated and samples were characterized by H and C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).

The photodegradation of crystal violet dye was investigated under UV and sunlight irradiations. Doping and excitation energy effects on photocatalytic efficiencies are discussed.
