Introduction: Racial or ethnic minorities are underrepresented in many health care professions, including physical therapy. Understanding the experiences of minority students in graduate education provides insight into how physical therapy educational programs can promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, which are factors that have been shown to improve patient outcomes. The purpose of this study is to qualitatively analyze and describe the lived experiences of Black student physical therapists (PT) in Texas.

Sandy beach ecosystems are highly dynamic coastal environments subject to a variety of anthropogenic pressures and impacts. Pollution from oil spills can damage beach ecosystems through the toxic effects of hydrocarbons on organisms and the disruptive nature of large-scale clean-up practices. On temperate sandy beaches, intertidal talitrid amphipods are primary consumers of macrophyte wrack subsidies and serve as prey for higher trophic level consumers, such as birds and fish.

Article Synopsis
  • Since the 1997 Digitalis Investigation Group trial, the use of digoxin has decreased as doctors prefer other medications like ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and beta-blockers, which are more effective in reducing health risks.
  • Despite this decline in usage and better monitoring, digoxin toxicity continues to be a serious issue, leading to significant health complications.
  • In cases of suspected digoxin toxicity, supportive care is crucial, including stopping the medication and possibly using digoxin-specific antibody fragments, especially in patients with conditions like acute renal failure, emphasizing the need for doctors to remain vigilant about this risk.

CRISPR-Cas9 mediated genome editing offers unprecedented opportunities for treating human diseases. There are several reports that demonstrate pre-existing immune responses to Cas9 which may have implications for clinical development of CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene therapy. Here we use 209 overlapping peptides that span the entire sequence of Staphylococcus aureus Cas9 (SaCas9) and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from a cohort of donors with a distribution of Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) alleles comparable to that in the North American (NA) population to identify the immunodominant regions of the SaCas9 protein.

Article Synopsis
  • On May 19, 2015, crude oil from a pipeline spill contaminated the surf zone at Refugio State Beach, California, affecting early life stages of various marine species.
  • Water and beach porewater samples were analyzed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and total petroleum hydrocarbon levels, which were found to be elevated near the spill site but decreased over time and distance.
  • Toxicity tests conducted on sand crab post larvae, inland silverside larvae, and blue mussel embryos indicated that PAH concentrations posed lethal risks to these early life stages, highlighting the environmental impact of the spill.
