We investigate low-temperature spin correlations in the metallic frustrated magnet β-Mn1-xCox. Single-crystal polarized-neutron scattering experiments reveal the persistence of highly structured magnetic diffuse scattering and the absence of periodic magnetic order to T=0.05  K.

We present a neutron scattering investigation of Ce1-xYxAl3 as a function of chemical pressure, which induces a transition from heavy-fermion behavior in CeAl3 (T{K}=5 K) to a mixed-valence state at x=0.5 (T{K}=150 K). The crossover can be modeled accurately on an absolute intensity scale by an increase in the k-f hybridization, V{kf}, within the Anderson impurity model.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the concept of work instability (a mis-match between an individual's functional and cognitive abilities and the demands of their job) following traumatic brain injury (TBI) and develop a work instability scale specific to this population.

Method: Work instability (WI) following TBI was explored through qualitative interviews which were then used to generate items for a work instability scale (WIS). Rasch analysis was used to examine the scaling properties of the TBI-WIS which was then validated against a gold standard of expert vocational assessment by occupational psychologists.

The magnetic anisotropy parameters in [110] MBE-grown films of REFe(2) (RE, rare earth) compounds are not the same as those in the bulk. This is due to the presence of a shear strain ε(xy), frozen-in during crystal growth. In this paper, magnetic anisotropy parameters for [110] MBE-grown REFe(2) films, that directly involve the shear strain ε(xy), are presented and discussed.
