Introduction: In 2014, a symposium focusing on access to healthcare was organized with input from socially excluded people, using the ATD Fourth World Guidelines for the Merging of Knowledge and Practices as the ethical framework. Can this approach be transferred to other settings?
Methods: Prospective assessment of a participatory approach in the context of a symposium.
Results: Strict conditions are required to ensure effective participation of extremely vulnerable people.
The network for promoting healthy vulnerable populations in the area of Chambery participated in the development of three training sessions aiming to improve the communication and relationships between people with severe social difficulties and health professionals. These training programmes are particularly unique in that they are designed and intended to be carried out with people having a very difficult life experience. They are called either cross-roads training or co-trainings.
