Detrimental effects of chronic sugar-sweetened carbonated soft drink consumption on inflammatory response and the size of apical periodontitis: An animal-based study.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chronic consumption of two sugar-sweetened carbonated soft drinks - one containing caffeine (Coca-Cola®) and one without (Sprite®) - on the progression of periapical lesions and the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in rats.

Methodology: Twelve Wistar rats were divided into three groups (n = 4): Control group, Coca-Cola group and Sprite group. The rats in Coca-Cola and Sprite groups were given ad libitum access to their respective soft drinks for 3 months, while the Control group received filtered water.

Do instrument kinematics and the apical preparation limit influence canal disinfection and bacterial extrusion?

This in vitro research assessed the influence of the instrument kinematics (rotary and reciprocating) and the apical preparation limit on the root canal disinfection and apical bacterial extrusion. After 21 days of Enterococcus faecalis biofilm formation in 72 mesial root canals of mandibular molars, the root canals were distributed into 2 groups (n = 36) according to the systems used for preparation: ProDesign S and Reciproc. The groups were redistributed according to the limit of apical preparation (n = 11): (a) 1 mm up to the apical foramen (TL-1); (b) at the apical foramen (TL = 0); (c) 1 mm beyond the apical foramen (TL + 1).

Prion protein regulates invasiveness in glioblastoma stem cells.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor driven by glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs), which represent an appealing target for therapeutic interventions. The cellular prion protein (PrP), a scaffold protein involved in diverse cellular processes, interacts with various membrane and extracellular matrix molecules, influencing tumor biology. Herein, we investigate the impact of PrP expression on GBM.

Urgent endovascular treatment of juxtarenal aneurysm using a parallel grafts technique.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms can constitute a therapeutic challenge in several anatomical scenarios, making endovascular treatment more complex. A juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (JR-AAA) is defined by the absence of a proximal landing zone in the infrarenal segment and, therefore, techniques must be used to obtain an adequate neck for fixing the endoprostheses without provoking occlusion of renal arteries and visceral branches. The parallel grafts technique, physician-modified stent-graft, industry customized endoprostheses, and off-the-shelf branched endoprosthesis are techniques used in abdominal aneurysms with inadequate proximal neck, but each technique has its indications, limitations, and risks.

Understanding intimate self-care among riverine women: qualitative research through the lens of the Sunrise Model.

Objectives: to contribute to the change in understandings and knowledge of the popular system among riverine women about female intimate self-care before and after the application of an educational dynamic.

Methods: a qualitative-participative study based on the Sunrise Model. Twenty women registered at a Basic Health Unit on the Combu island, state of Pará, Brazil, participated in the second half of 2022.
