The Effects of Mepolizumab on CRSwNP: Real-Life Evidence.

: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of mepolizumab in the treatment of severe uncontrolled CRSwNP with or without comorbid asthma in a real-life setting over the first six months of therapy. : A total of 45 patients with nasal polyps with or without comorbid asthma were treated with mepolizumab (100 mg q4w) for 6 months. The following outcomes were assessed before therapy (V), and after 6 months (V): endoscopic nasal polyp score (NPS), nasal congestion score (NCS), sinonasal outcome test (SNOT-22), visual analog scale (VAS), nasal flow rate (PNIF), olfactory test (SS-I), and asthma control test (ACT).

Role of circulating microparticles and cytokines in periodontitis associated with diabetes.

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth, and can lead to serious complications such as tooth loss and systemic health problems, including diabetes, which have a bidirectional relationship with periodontitis. Circulating microparticles originate from different cell types after stimuli such as activation or apoptosis. Interleukins are related to processes in the regulation of the immune response, inflammation, and cell growth.

Surgical treatment of acute recurrent throat infections in children.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to define the contribute of surgery and watchful waiting in the treatment of feverish episodes and other clinical manifestations related to acute recurrent throat infections in children.

Methods: An observational, retrospective and multi-centric study was carried out on 407 subjects, aged 2-11, with a minimum two-year follow-up. Chi square test and Fisher's test were used for the statistical analysis.

Salivary glands: report of a rare case of myoepithelial carcinoma involving tongue base treated by CO2 Laser.

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma is a rare malignant tumour of the salivary glands. Herewith, the clinical evolution, anatomo-pathological characteristics and treatment adopted are described in a case occurring in the minor salivary glands of the tongue base. To our knowledge, this location has not been previously described in the literature.

Adeno-tonsillar surgery in Italy.

Indications to surgery for adeno-tonsillar inflammatory disorders and analysis of the effectiveness of surgical treatment, compared with watchful waiting strategy, continue to be the subject of scientific debate. The present investigation focuses on the surgical activity of 14 Italian Otorhinolaryngological Units between 1999 and 2004. Surgical interventions (adeno-tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy) on 26915 children (age range: 2-11 years) were considered.
