Objective: To evaluate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy on the outcomes of patients with chronic refractory osteomyelitis (CRO) when combined with modern antibiotics with modern delivery methods and/or surgical treatments.

Methods: The authors conducted a retrospective review on 58 patients with CRO from a single institution who underwent HBO therapy along with standard treatment between January 2009 and December 2019. To investigate associations with binary outcomes of interest, they estimated logistic regression models.

Introduction: Drug-related hospital admissions (DRAs) can account for 5%-40% of total hospital admissions in older adults, with a significant proportion deemed preventable. To increase the detection of DRAs, in 2021, a revised trigger tool listing 21 frequent causes of admissions and medications at risk was proposed. This study aimed to describe DRAs using this trigger tool in a French acute geriatric ward and to assess the performance of the tool.

Article Synopsis
  • Current intracortical brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs) primarily use spiking data for decoding neural activity, which can be accurate but requires high sampling rates that can be challenging to maintain.
  • An alternative approach involves using local field potentials (LFPs) to capture continuous signals alongside spikes, but LFPs alone have not matched the performance of spike-based decoding.
  • This study shows that by training models to use LFPs to predict firing rates from spiking data, the performance can improve significantly, allowing for lower power iBCI devices that still achieve high accuracy, even outperforming direct spike decoding in many cases.

This work details the synthesis and characterization of low-coordinate Zn(II)-based organocations [(NHC)Zn(R)] incorporating extremely bulky NHCs [ITr] and [IAd] ([ITr] = ([ITr] = [(HCNCPh)C:]; [IAd] = [(HCNAd)C:], Ad = adamantyl)). Their structural features and particularities are thoroughly assessed as well as their air and water tolerance. Neutral ITr and IAd adducts [(ITr)Zn(R)] (1, R = Me; 2, R = Et) and [(IAd)Zn(R)] (3, R = Me; 4, R = Et) were synthesized by reaction of carbene [ITr] or [IAd] with a stoichiometric amount of [ZnR] and isolated in good yields.

Springtails (Collembola) inhabit soils from the Arctic to the Antarctic and comprise an estimated ~32% of all terrestrial arthropods on Earth. Here, we present a global, spatially-explicit database on springtail communities that includes 249,912 occurrences from 44,999 samples and 2,990 sites. These data are mainly raw sample-level records at the species level collected predominantly from private archives of the authors that were quality-controlled and taxonomically-standardised.
