Induction and exacerbation of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus following mRNA-based or adenoviral vector-based SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

Evidence is accumulating that COVID-19 vaccines might induce or exacerbate autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The currently available COVID-19 vaccines include mRNA and recombinant adenoviral vector vaccines, both encoding SARS-CoV-2 spike protein production as the primary target for neutralizing antibodies. We report a case of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) following mRNA vaccination with the Pfizer mRNA vaccine BNT162b2, and summarize the current literature on CLE occurring after COVID-19 vaccination.

Two-level cervical disc arthroplasty in patients with Klippel-Feil syndrome: A case report and review of the literature.

Background: Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) is defined by multiple abnormal segments of the cervical spine with congenital synostosis of two or more cervical vertebrae. KFS patients who demonstrate progressive symptomatic instability and/or neurologic sequelae are traditionally managed with operative decompression and arthrodesis.

Case Description: A 44-year-old female with chronic neck pain and radiculopathy and a C7-T1 KFS presented with adjacent segment degenerative disc disease at the C5-6 and C6-7 levels.

[Prevalence of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) - low response in vascular surgery].

Background: Research has revealed that a decreased antiplatelet effect (low response [LR]/high on-treatment platelet reactivity [HPR]) of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and clopidogrel is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolic events. There are extensive ASA low response (ALR) and clopidogrel low response (CLR) prevalence data in the literature, but there are only a few studies concerning vascular surgical patients. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of ALR and CLR in vascular surgical patients.

Chemical signals of elephant musth: temporal aspects of microbially-mediated modifications.

Mature male African (Loxodonta africana) and Asian (Elephas maximus) elephants exhibit periodic episodes of musth, a state in which serum androgens are elevated, food intake typically decreases, aggressiveness often increases, and breeding success is enhanced. Urine is a common source of chemical signals in a variety of mammals. Elephants in musth dribble urine almost continuously for lengthy periods, suggesting that the chemicals in their urine may reveal their physiological condition to conspecifics.
