Article Synopsis
  • Lithium salt LiHDI is introduced as an effective additive for stabilizing the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) in lithium-ion batteries, requiring smaller amounts than traditional additives like FEC and VC.
  • Tests comparing LiHDI with other additives demonstrated that it maintains chemical and thermal stability without negatively impacting electrolyte properties.
  • Results show that cells using LiHDI exhibit improved capacity retention during cycling at both room temperature and elevated temperatures compared to those using FEC and VC, highlighting its potential for enhancing battery performance.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition characterized by persistent symptoms and complications resulting from reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are fermentation products of dietary fibres by the gut microbiota and are often studied for their anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. The presence of SCFAs in the upper gastrointestinal tract, including in patients with GERD, has not been previously studied.

Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is an indoleamine synthesized in vertebrates mainly in the pineal gland, and is known to be involved mainly in thermoregulation and control of the circadian rhythm. That indoleamine can affect the auto-, para- and endocrine pathways, regulating body functions and affecting the metabolism of animals and humans. In addition to the pineal gland, melatonin can be synthesized in many extra-pineal tissues, mainly in the gastrointestinal tract.

We aimed to describe the clinical presentation, treatment, outcome and report on factors associated with mortality over a 90-day period in infection (CDI). Descriptive, univariate, and multivariate regression analyses were performed on data collected in a retrospective case-control study conducted in nine hospitals from seven European countries. A total of 624 patients were included, of which 415 were deceased (cases) and 209 were still alive 90 days after a CDI diagnosis (controls).
