Metal-Catalyzed Hydrogen Atom Transfer (MHAT) Hydroalkylation with Electron-Deficient Alkynes.

We present a novel strategy for olefin construction via the reductive coupling of electron-neutral alkenes with electron-deficient alkynes under metal-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer conditions. This methodology provides selective access to both and the more challenging-to-synthesize isomers and permits the olefin to be installed next to sterically hindered centers, key factors in the synthesis of biologically active compounds. The reaction exhibits broad functional group tolerance and proceeds under mild, nontoxic conditions with high atom efficiency.

"Synthetic Map": A Graphic Organizer Inspired by Artificial Neural Network Paradigms for Learning Organic Synthesis.

Organic Chemistry is widely recognized as a challenging subject, with the design of syntheses and retrosyntheses identified as particularly difficult tasks. Inspired by the success of artificial neural networks in machine learning, we propose a framework that leverages similar principles to enhance the teaching and learning of organic synthesis. In this paper, we introduce a novel teaching tool, the "Synthetic Map", that attempts to visually recreate an expert's mental map and conceptual understanding of organic synthesis built over years of experience.

"It's like having a superpower": Reclaiming creativity and the intersectional experiences of trans young adults of color.

Trans young adults of color experience systemic harm that contributes to negative health outcomes and hinders their ability to live freely. The present study used a grounded theory qualitative methodology rooted in a critical-ideological paradigm to understand the intersections of racial and gender oppression. Trans young adults of color from across the United States ( = 15; ages 20-29; majority racial identities: Asian, Black, and multiracial; majority gender identities: nonbinary and transmasculine) participated in a semistructured interview.

Task-specific resistance training adaptations in older adults: comparing traditional and functional exercise interventions.

Muscle strength declines ∼3% per year after the age of 70. Resistance training guidelines for older adults are often based on free-weight and machine exercises, which may be inaccessible and lack carryover to activities of daily living. We tested the hypothesis that resistance training adaptations in older adults are task-specific.

Allied Dental Students' Perceived Knowledge, Confidence, and Attitudes Regarding Disaster Victim Identification Topics.

Disaster victim identification (DVI) service requires knowledge, confidence, and an attitude (KCA) of readiness. The purpose of this study was to assess allied dental students' perceived KCA regarding DVI skills and topics. A convenience sample of senior dental hygiene students (n=27) and senior dental assistant students (n=14) were recruited by email then presented mismatched simulated antemortem (AM) and postmortem (PM) bitewing radiographs and asked to indicate correct matches.
