Metaproteomic analysis of microbiome post-translation modifications (PTMm) is challenging, and little is known about the effects of inflammation on the bacterial PTM landscape in IBD. Here, we adapted and optimised fluorescence in situ hybridisation-flow cytometry (FISH-FC) to study microbiome-wide tyrosine phosphorylation (p-Tyr) in children with and without inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Microbial p-Tyr signal was significantly higher in children with IBD, compared to those without.

Recent studies have revealed that many mosquito species regularly engage in high-altitude windborne migration, but its epidemiological significance was debated. The hypothesis that high-altitude mosquitoes spread pathogens over large distances has not been directly tested. Here, we report for the first time that high-altitude windborne mosquitoes are commonly infected with arboviruses, protozoans, and helminths affecting vertebrates and humans, and provide the first description of this pathogen-vector aerial network.

We performed nanopore-based metagenomic screening on 885 ticks collected from 6 locations in Mongolia and divided the results into 68 samples: 23 individual samples and 45 pools of 2-12 tick samples each. We detected bacterial and parasitic pathogens Anaplasma ovis, Babesia microti, Coxiella burnetii, Borrelia miyamotoi, Francisella tularensis subsp. holarctica and novicida, Spiroplasma ixodetis, Theileria equi, and Rickettsia spp.
