Removal of filling material using rotating or reciprocating systems with or without solvent: microCT analysis.

This study evaluated by the efficacy of rotary and reciprocating systems to remove filling material by micro-CT. Sixty human canines were instrumented up to F3 by ProTaper Universal system and filled with AH Plus/ gutta-percha. Specimens were submitted to 1,200 thermal cycles, scanned by microCT SkyScan 1176 and randomly distributed in groups according to the filling material removal protocol (n = 10): ProTaper Universal, ProTaper Universal/xylol, ProTaper Next, ProTaper Next/xylol, Reciproc and Reciproc/xylol.

Heparin dosing in uninterrupted anticoagulation with dabigatran vs. warfarin in atrial fibrillation ablation: RE-CIRCUIT study.

Aims: To describe heparin dosing requirements in patients who underwent catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation with uninterrupted anticoagulation using dabigatran etexilate (dabigatran) or warfarin to attain therapeutic activated clotting time (ACT) in the RE-CIRCUIT® study. The RE-CIRCUIT study showed significantly fewer major bleeding events in the dabigatran vs. warfarin treatment group.

Retrospective survival analysis of 237 consecutive patients with multiple pulmonary metastases from advanced renal cell carcinoma exclusively resected by a 1318-nm laser.

Objectives: Despite the introduction of new target drugs to treat pulmonary metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), complete surgical resection still generates significantly longer survival. We analysed the survival outcome for patients with pulmonary mRCC after extended laser metastasectomy with up to 110 metastases and systematic lymphadenectomy to assess the utility and value of laser resection in the respective patient groups even with high number of metastases.

Methods: Between 1996 and 2012, 237 patients (150 men, 87 women) underwent curative intended pulmonary laser metastasectomy of mRCC.

Laser-assisted resection of a giant pulmonary chondrohamartoma--a case report.

A rare case of a giant pulmonary chondromatous hamartoma (15 cm, 1350 g) resected by a new laser system (Nd:YAG, 1318 nm, 40 W) is presented. The laser management of a hamartoma resection--the largest reported to date in the literature--is presented here.
