Repurposing neuroleptics: clozapine as a novel, adjuvant therapy for melanoma brain metastases.

The blood-brain barrier and the distinct brain immunology provide challenges in translating commonly used chemotherapeutics to treat intracranial tumors. Previous reports suggest anti-tumoral effects of antipsychotics, encouraging investigations into potential treatment effects of neuroleptics on brain metastases. For the first time, the therapeutic potential of the antipsychotic drug clozapine in treating melanoma brain metastases (MBM) was investigated using three human MBM cell lines.

Recording the corpus cavernosum electromyogram: principles and problems.

Purpose: To apply digital signal acquisition and analyzing techniques to the collection and interpretation of electromyographic data of the cavernous body.

Materials And Methods: Electromyographic recordings were performed in the cavernous bodies of anesthetized, spontaneously breathing dogs under resting conditions and after intracavernous pharmacostimulation with norepinephrine, angiotensin II, phentolamine/papaverine, diethylether and T61.

Results: Resting corpus cavernosum activity was ill-coordinated and provided little information.

[The advantage of preventive vaginal antisepsis with hexetidine in obstetrics and gynecology].

In five studies, the advantage of repeated vaginal prophylaxis by a new preparation of hexetidine vaginal suppositories (10 mg) was investigated prospectively, randomised and method-controlled (n = 2 x 50). After a five-day application, the hexetidine group achieved bacterial reductions of five log CFU/ml in the vagina and nearly three log CFU/ml in the cervix uteri, whilst no reduction was found in the controls at any time (p less than 0.01).

The effect of impaired lipid metabolism on the smooth muscle cells of rabbits.

Our clinical data enabled us to demonstrate a correlation between impaired lipid metabolism and vasculogenic impotent men. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of an impaired lipid metabolism on the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum. A total of 16 rabbits were given a cholesterol-enriched diet for 3 months, and 8 of these received additional thromboxane A2 receptor antagonist; 10 other rabbits (control) were fed a normal diet.
