Background: Guidelines recommend a low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goal of < 70 mg/dL for patients with very high-risk atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). While alirocumab monotherapy and ezetimibe plus statin therapy have both shown efficacy in independently reducing LDL-C, a direct comparison has not been conducted.

Methods: A retrospective chart review at the Veterans Affairs Sioux Falls Health Care System compared 20 patients with a history of ASCVD events who received alirocumab monotherapy to 60 patients receiving ezetimibe plus statin therapy.

Purpose: Detection of molecular residual disease (MRD) allows for the identification of breast cancer patients at high-risk of recurrence, with the potential that early initiation of treatment at early stages of relapse could improve patient outcomes. The Invitae Personalized Cancer Monitoring™ assay (PCM) is a newly developed next-generation sequencing approach that utilizes up to 50 patient-specific, tumor-informed DNA variants, to detect circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). The ability of the PCM assay to detect MRD before clinical relapse was evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • N-acetylcysteine, a known antioxidant, can help counteract the harmful effects of pesticides like pyrimiphos-methyl in a mouse model.
  • The study showed that N-acetylcysteine significantly lowers oxidative stress caused by this pesticide.
  • Combining N-acetylcysteine with traditional treatments like atropine and obidoxime does not interfere with its antioxidant benefits, suggesting it could enhance safety during pesticide poisoning treatments.

The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories in our context result from the production of electricity from fuel oil at the Mbalmayo thermal power plant between 2016 and 2020. Our study area is located in the Central Cameroon region. The empirical method of the second level of industrialisation was applied to estimate GHG emissions and the application of the genetic algorithm-Gaussian (GA-Gaussian) coupling method was used to optimise the estimation of GHG emissions.

To ensure their vital role in disseminating the species, dormant seeds have developed adaptive strategies to protect themselves against pathogens and predators. This is orchestrated through the synthesis of an array of constitutive defences that are put in place in a developmentally regulated manner, which are the focus of this review. We summarize the defence activity and the nature of the molecules coming from the exudate of imbibing seeds that leak into their vicinity, also referred to as the spermosphere.
