Background: The activity of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), a specific deposit of adipose tissue surrounding blood vessels, could contribute to sex differences in vascular tone control, particularly in dyslipidemic disorders; however, the mutual associations remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the relationships among sex, PVAT and vascular function in Wistar and hereditary hypertriglyceridemic (HTG) rats. Vasoactive responses of the isolated thoracic aorta with preserved or removed PVAT were compared in adult male and female Wistar and HTG rats, and the roles of nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (HS), cyclooxygenase (COX) and inflammatory signaling in vascular function were monitored in females.

Purpose: The significance of extended high-frequency (EHF) hearing (> 8 kHz) is not well understood so far. In this study, we aimed to understand the relationship between EHF hearing loss (EHFHL) and speech perception in noise (SPIN) and the associated physiological signatures using the speech-evoked frequency-following response (sFFR).

Many early warning algorithms are downstream of clinical evaluation and diagnostic testing, which means that they may not be useful when clinicians fail to suspect illness and fail to order appropriate tests. Depending on how such algorithms handle missing data, they could even indicate "low risk" simply because the testing data were never ordered. We considered predictive methodologies to identify sepsis at triage, before diagnostic tests are ordered, in a busy Emergency Department (ED).
