A Review of β-Lactam-Associated Neutropenia and Implications for Cross-reactivity.

Objective: To review the incidence, management, and current understanding of the pathophysiology of β-lactam-induced neutropenia and to critically evaluate the practicality and safety of direct substitution to an alternative β-lactam in the setting of this reaction.

Data Sources: A literature analysis using the PubMed and Ovid search engines (July 1968 to October 2020) was performed using the search terms , and (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor).

Study Selection And Data Extraction: The included English-language studies evaluated the incidence, mechanism, and/or management of β-lactam-induced neutropenia in pediatric or adult patients.

Evolution of Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy in Lung Cancer and Birmingham's (UK) Experience.

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has taken a pivotal role in early lung cancer management particularly in the medically inoperable patients. Retrospective studies have shown this to be well tolerated with comparable results to surgery and no significant increase in toxicity. Paucity of randomized evidence has dictated initiation of several trials to provide good quality evidence to steer future practice.

Framing Medicine as a Moral Practice: An Introductory Medical School Course.

Problem: The transition into medical school represents a time of profound professional development for medical students. Many medical schools manage this transition with brief orientations followed by abrupt moves into the anatomy laboratory. Recognizing that early introduction of key humanistic concepts could have a lasting impact on students' attitudes, faculty at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine created the Foundations of the Profession (FoP) course to frame medicine as a moral practice.
