External quality monitoring facilitates improvement in already well-performing stroke units: insights from RES-Q Poland.

Introduction: The Registry of Stroke Care Quality (RES-Q) is used in Poland for quality monitoring by numerous hospitals participating in the Angels Initiative. Our aim was to assess the degree of improvement in highly stroke-oriented centres that report cases to the RES-Q each year.

Material And Methods: This retrospective analysis included Polish stroke units that from January 2017 to December 2020 contributed to the RES-Q at least 25 patients annually.

Cervical dystonia - improving the effectiveness of botulinum toxin therapy.

Introduction: Cervical dystonia is the most frequent form of focal dystonia. It is characterised by involuntary muscular contractions resulting in abnormal head/neck and shoulder movements and postures, which can be associated with tremor and pain. Local intramuscular injections of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) is the treatment of choice, being both effective and well-tolerated.

Mechanical thrombectomy in acute stroke - Five years of experience in Poland.

Objectives: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is not reimbursed by the Polish public health system. We present a description of 5 years of experience with MT in acute stroke in Comprehensive Stroke Centers (CSCs) in Poland.

Methods And Results: We retrospectively analyzed the results of a structured questionnaire from 23 out of 25 identified CSCs and 22 data sets that include 61 clinical, radiological and outcome measures.

Pharmacokinetic and safety evaluation of high-dose combinations of fosamprenavir and ritonavir.

High-dose combinations of fosamprenavir (FPV) and ritonavir (RTV) were evaluated in healthy adult subjects in order to select doses for further study in multiple protease inhibitor (PI)-experienced patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus type 1. Two high-dose regimens, FPV 1,400 mg twice a day (BID) plus RTV 100 mg BID and FPV 1,400 mg BID plus RTV 200 mg BID, were planned to be compared to the approved regimen, FPV 700 mg BID plus RTV 100 mg BID, in a randomized three-period crossover study. Forty-two healthy adult subjects were enrolled, and 39 subjects completed period 1.

Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS): recent experience of its use in a clinical study and the potential future of the technique.
