Concerning human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemiology, pregnant women (PW) are particularly vulnerable and severely affected. Nigeria has over 40 years of HIV epidemiology and enlightenments; to suggest control hub, we sought to know extant variables predicting HIV positivity among PW in selected towns in Osun State. Our hypothesis: none of the study PW's variables predicts HIV seropositivity.

Parametric optimization and statistical evaluation of a spray dryer for the evaporation of caustic soda solution.

A clinical study of pattern and factors affecting outcome in Nigerian patients with advanced heart failure.

Background: Advanced heart failure (AHF) accounts for about 25% of all cases of heart failure in Nigeria and is associated with a high mortality rate.

Objective: To undertake a clinical study of the pattern and outcome of AHF in our hospitalised patients and to determine the parameters associated with mortality and survival in these patients.

Method: Eighty-two patients with AHF were studied between January 2003 and December 2005.

Haematology of experimental babesiosis and ehrlichiosis in steroid immunosuppressed horses.

An investigation was carried out to study the haematology of steroid immunosuppressed horses experimentally infected with Babesia equi and Ehrlichia equi, separately or simultaneously. Horses infected with both pathogens showed less marked changes in their haematology than those inoculated with either pathogen separately. This appeared to result from early elimination of the more pathogenic Babesia as Ehrlichia spread through the granulocytes.
