ISO estimates of noise-induced hearing impairment.

The revision of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard ISO 1999 [(1971). International Organization of Standardization, Geneva, Switzerland)] in 1990 was based on two noise and hearing study databases, one presented by Burns and Robinson [(1970). Hearing and Noise in Industry (Her Majesty's Stationary Office, London)] and the other by Passchier-Vermeer [(1968).

[Efficacy of adaptol and the possibility of its differential use in patients with anxiety disorders after myocardial infarction].

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of adaptol in a dose of 1500-2000 mg/day in combination therapy for anxiety disorders (AD) in the early post-myocardial infarction period.

Subjects And Methods: The trial included 94 patients with AD who were divided into a study group of 60 patients and a control group of 34 patients. In addition to basic therapy, the study group took adaptol in a dose of 1500-200 mg/day for 30 +/- 2 days; the control group received basic therapy only.

The clinical significance of immune reactions with some streptococcal antigens in rheumatoid arthritis.

The level of antibodies and delayed-type hypersensitivity to the group specific polysaccharides and cell wall proteins of groups A, B, C and G streptococci was determined in 247 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as well as in healthy persons and in patients with other articular disorders by means of an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, passive hemaglutination and leukocyte migration inhibition tests. An increase of the immune response to antigens of group B streptococcus was found in patients with RA. The greatest sensitization against these antigens was typical for high disease activity of short duration, and a rapidly progressive course of RA.

Real-ear attenuation of earmuffs in normal-hearing and hearing-impaired individuals.

Many of the 9 million workers exposed to average noise levels of 85 dB (A) and above are required to wear hearing protection devices, and many of these workers have already developed noise-induced hearing impairments. There is some evidence in the literature that hearing-impaired users may not receive as much attenuation from hearing protectors as normal-hearing users. This study assessed real-ear attenuation at threshold for ten normal-hearing and ten hearing-impaired subjects using a set of David Clark 10A earmuffs.
