We previously demonstrated that sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 3 (S1PR3) in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) prevents reductions in sociability normally caused by stress. S1PR3 is a ubiquitously expressed G-protein coupled receptor that regulates immune system function, although its regulation of other biological processes is not well understood. Pharmacological activators of S1PR3 might provide important insights for understanding the neural substrates underlying sociability.

The short-wave infrared range is highly significant for spectroscopic sensing and upcoming optical communication applications. Integrating active and passive photonic components is essential to achieve compact optical solutions. In this paper, we show, for the first time to our knowledge, a wavelength-selective detection system based on the heterogeneous integration of two grating-coupled InGaAs photodetectors operating at the 2µm wave band, with a wavelength selectivity provided by a dual-channel Mach-Zehnder interferometer fabricated using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers successfully integrated InAs/GaAs quantum dot lasers with an AlGaN/GaN-on-sapphire waveguide platform using micro-transfer printing.
  • The design allows for easy alignment of the lasing modes with the passive waveguide modes, achieving a TE propagation loss of 4.5 dB/cm for 4 μm wide waveguides.
  • This integration showcases the potential of GaN for photonics applications, with a coupled output power of 1.5 mW at 70°C and 100 mA, marking a significant advancement in laser integration technology.

Article Synopsis
  • Tranexamic acid is often used to stop bleeding in various medical fields, but its potential toxicity, especially when administered through nebulization or BAL, hasn't been fully explored.
  • A case was reported where a 44-year-old man experienced serious side effects after receiving the drug during a bronchoscopy, including changes in mental status and muscle spasms.
  • As the drug's use in lung treatments grows, healthcare providers should be cautious about its toxicity and consider lower doses or alternative treatments for older patients or those with specific health conditions.
