Background: To monitor olfactory/gustatory dysfunction and its relationship to SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody responses in an adolescent population.

Methods: Adolescents with changes in olfactory/gustatory functions were enrolled in a 15-month study. The patients were evaluated with 1) SNOT-22, 2) pediatric smell wheel, and 3) SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the biomechanical stability of locking fixation plates of varying thicknesses, made from titanium alloy and CFR-PEEK, for treating Class III atrophic mandibular fractures using 3D simulation models.
  • It was found that thicker plates reduced Von Mises stress values, enhancing load-sharing performance and suggesting that CFR-PEEK plates caused lower stress on screws and plates compared to titanium ones.
  • The results indicated that CFR-PEEK plates, particularly those 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm thick, produced optimal strain levels that facilitate healing, making them a promising option for managing atrophic mandibular fractures.

A comparison is made of three methods for modeling the interaction of a laser probe beam with the temperature field of a thermal wave. The three methods include: (1) a new method based on complex ray theory, which allows us to take into account the disturbance of the amplitude and phase of the electric field of the probe beam, (2) the ray deflection averaging theory of Aamodt and Murphy, and (3) the wave theory (WT) of Glazov and Muratikov. To carry out this comparison, it is necessary to reformulate the description of the photodeflection signal in either the WT or the ray deflection averaging theory.

Objectives: A new measuring technique for the determination of thermal diffusivity is proposed. Using this technique, the thermal properties of a few different dental filling materials were measured.

Methods: The proposed method for measurement of thermal diffusivity is based on the classical Angström's method.
