Different concentrations of CNFs were evaluated in two different synthesis protocols producing distinctly different ZnO morphologies (flowers and sea urchins) as either dominantly oxygen- or zinc-terminated particles. The CNF effects on the ZnO formation were investigated by implementing a heat-treatment method at 400 °C that fully removed the cellulose material without affecting the ZnO particles made in the presence of CNFs.

Diluted fibrinogen deficient human plasma was incubated with increasing concentrations of the anticoagulants and protease generation was initiated either by extrinsic (EA; thromboplastin/calcium chloride) or intrinsic (IA; ellagic acid/cephaloplastin/calcium chloride) activation of the coagulation process. Generation of thrombin or factor Xa was measured continuously by amidolytic assays using the specific chromogenic substrates Spectrozyme TH and Spectrozyme FXa.

We present, to our knowledge, the first extensively studied case of lymphoid L2 blast crisis of chronic myelogenous leukemia with a hand mirror cell (HMC) variant. Special stains revealed the leukemic cells to be terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase positive by immunofluorescence and cytochemically positive for alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase and acid phosphatase (diffuse granular). Immunophenotyping identified the major leukemic cell population as B-cells that expressed CD10+, CD19+, and HLA-DR+.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwenty-nine patients with aplastic anemia and 11 patients with myelofibrosis were evaluated with indium-111 chloride bone-marrow imaging, ferrokinetics, and bone-marrow core biopsies. There was good correlation between the erythrocyte cellularity of the marrow and the In-111 bone-marrow scan grades in most patients. In some, the overall scan grade tended to underestimate the erythroid elements because the core biopsy had been taken from the area of the greatest radionuclide concentration on the scan.
