Article Synopsis
  • A mucoid cyst, commonly known as a mucocele, is a harmless oral lesion mainly affecting children and young adults, typically found on the lower inner lips due to salivary gland duct rupture.
  • The presentation includes three clinical cases from 2022 to 2023, highlighting their histories, diagnostic details, and treatment methods.
  • Although mucoceles often heal on their own, they may require surgical intervention if they affect swallowing or speech; surgical options are preferred for persistent cases, and regular follow-up is crucial, particularly in younger patients or in sensitive locations like the underside of the tongue.

Article Synopsis
  • Oro-antral communication (OAC) is an abnormal opening between the maxillary sinus and the mouth that can lead to complications like oro-antral fistula (OAF) and sinus infections if not treated promptly.
  • The authors detail five clinical cases where they employed surgical techniques, particularly the buccal fat pad and advanced buccal flaps, to effectively close OAF/OAC.
  • They emphasize that timely surgical intervention within 48 hours is crucial, highlighting the advantages of the flaps used and suggesting the need for further research with larger patient groups for comprehensive findings.

In order to avoid potential environmental pollution from geopolymer-based material wastes, this work investigated the feasibility of using these materials as alternative raw materials in the preparation of cement clinker. The geopolymer binders and mortars were used as substitutes for natural mineral clays since they are rich in silica and alumina. Simulated geopolymer wastes were prepared by the activation of metakaolin or fly ash by an alkaline silicate solution.

Vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (VTP) induces rapid destruction of targeted tissues and is a promising therapy for prostate cancer. However, the resulting immune response, which may play an important role in either potentiating or blunting the effects of VTP, is still incompletely understood. Myeloid cells such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and macrophages are often found in tumors and are widely reported to be associated with cancer angiogenesis, tissue remodeling, and immunosuppression.
