Efficacy of rituximab in refractory polyarteritis nodosa: a case report.

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis affecting medium and small-sized vessels resulting in multiple organ involvement. Refractory PAN requires a different therapeutic approach. We herein report the case of a 42-year-old male presenting a non-virus-related refractory PAN with a favorable outcome on rituximab.

Annular pancreas: Radiological features of a rare case of infantile vomiting.

Our purpose is to illustrate the radiological aspects of the annular pancreas as an etiology of duodenal obstruction in infants. We report the case of a 4-month-old girl, who was admitted to our department with postprandial vomiting evolving since birth. The initial examination found a severely dehydrated patient.

Family medicine: attractiveness, constraints and prospects as perceived by residents of the specialty.

Introduction: Medical studies reform in Tunisia was conducted to upgrade general medicine, depreciated by the population and experienced by practitioners as a path of failure, thus elevated to the rank of family medicine (FM).

Aim: To determine the factors of attractiveness of the FM, the prospects and career aspirations of future family physicians.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey by an anonymous questionnaire distributed via an online questionnaire platform from February 11th to April 13th, 2018 that targeted students in the 2nd year of FM at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis.

Colorectal cancer in young adults: a retrospective study of 32 tunisian patients.

Young people under the age of 40 with colorectal cancer represent a distinct subgroup with a more aggressive disease behaviour compared to older patients. This study aim to provide an updated overview on clinicopathological features, treatment and outcome of colorectal cancer in young adults under the age of 40. In our retrospective study, we reviewed 32 cases of colorectal cancer in young adults aged less than 40 years that were diagnosed at the pathology department of Mongi Slim hospital over a fifteen-year period (April 2000 - November 2014).

Gelatinous Transformation of Bone Marrow in a Patient with Anorexia Nervosa: An Uncommon but Reversible Etiology.

BACKGROUND Anorexia nervosa is a relatively frequently encountered eating disorder. Beyond its psychiatric significance, it is associated with multiple hematological features such as cytopenia. It can be related to gelatinous transformation of the bone marrow.

[Refractory Sweet syndrome complicated by monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance].

The association between Sweet syndrome and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is exceptional. We report the case of a 44 years-old woman in whom recurrent Sweet syndrome was complicated by monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) after 3 years of evolution.

Prognostic factors of advanced stage non-small-cell lung cancer.

Background Lung cancer is the main cause of death from cancer in the world. The 5-year survival is about 15%. Despite the progress of medicine the mortality rate decreased only marginally.

Role of procalcitonin and c-reactive protein levels: a diagnostic tool in lower respiratory tract infections.

Background: Conventional biomarkers lack sensitivity and specificity for acute pulmonary Community (PAC). Procalcitonin (PCT) has been described in the literature for its usefulness in the PAC. The aim of our work was to study the contribution of the PCT in the positive diagnosis of PAC and in the initial assessment of the severity and the interest of CRP and PCT to distinguish lung infections from tuberculous origin of the PAC.

[Hypercalcemia related to PTH-rP revealing malignant hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma].

Hypercalcemia caused by tumor production of PTH-rp occurs most often in cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, aerodigestive tract cancer, gynecological cancer and lymphoma. We report an exceptional case of PTH-rp related to a hepatic hemangioendothelioma. A 70 years-old male admitted for deterioration of the general state.

[Predictive factors of the outcome of smoking cessation among Tunisian women].

Background: The spread of smoking among women in Tunisia has reached alarming proportions because of increasing smoker rate, the younger age of smoking initiation and therefore its duration.

Aim: Identify predictors of success or failure of smoking cessation, Methods: we conducted a retrospective study (January 2008-June 2011), including 101 female smokers (19.8%) among 510 smokers of both sexes undergoing smoking cessation interventions.

[Cryoglobulinemia in a Tunisian internal medicine department].

Aim: Cryoglobulinemia is characterized by multiple organ involvement, mainly including the skin, liver, kidneys, and peripheral nerves. Our aim was to investigate the demographic, clinical, and serologic features, as well as survival in a group of 16 Tunisian patients with cryoglobulinemia.

Results: The study included 12 women and 4 men, and their mean age was 41 years.

[Characteristics of deep vein thrombosis in the elderly].

Purpose Of The Study: Deep vein thrombosis is a common condition in geriatric. The identification of risk factors for venous thrombosis in the elderly is important because it allows an appropriate prescription of preventive treatments. The purpose of this study is to identify the etiologic and therapeutic characteristics of deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs in the elderly.

[Syndrome d'activation macrophagique: une série de 11 cas tunisiens].

Background: Hemophagocytic syndromes are mostly associated with underlying pathology, they can reveal: immunodeficiency, infections, hemopathies, cancers and auto-immune diseases.

Aim: to investigate clinical, biological features, outcome characteristics and underlying pathology of Tunisian patients with hemophagocytic syndromes.

Methods: A retrospective study of patients with hemophagocytic syndromes admitted in an internal medicine department in Tunis over the period 2009-2012.
