Article Synopsis
  • Blue light exposure has been linked to retinal injury, prompting a study on whether stromal vascular fraction cells (SVFCs) can help mitigate this damage in rats.
  • The rats were divided into groups, with some exposed to blue light and others receiving SVFC injections, leading to assessments of their physical, physiological, and retinal tissue health over time.
  • Results indicated that while blue light exposure resulted in significant retinal damage, the SVFC-treated group showed notable improvements, suggesting that SVFCs may help protect against and repair blue light-induced retinal injury via specific signaling pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Histamine stimulates melanin production through H2 receptors in skin cells, leading to increased pigmentation after UVB exposure.
  • Topically applied H2 antagonists effectively reduce this post-irradiation pigmentation, unlike H1 antagonists or placebo.
  • The study highlights the mechanism by which H2 antagonists not only inhibit melanin production but also impair the transfer of melanin-containing organelles called melanosomes.

This study aimed at preparation of a sustained-release steroidal treatment for chronic inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis. To achieve such a goal, biodegradable poly-lactide-co-glycolide prednisolone-loaded microspheres were prepared using o/w emulsion solvent evaporation method. Formulation parameters were adjusted so as to optimize the microsphere characteristics.
