Validation Study of the LSE Classification and Scoring System in Comparison With U-Score.

Objective: To validate the value of the LSE classification and scoring system in predicting surgical outcomes for male anterior urethral stricture cases.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 566 patients who underwent urethroplasty between August 2004 and March 2022. After excluding pelvic fracture urethral injury and non-stricture diseases and incomplete data, 358 patients were classified according to the LSE classification system, and both U score and LSE score were calculated.

Detection of lipid radicals generated via cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury using a radiolabeled nitroxide probe.

Reactive oxygen species generated via reperfusion cause lipid damage and induce lipid peroxidation, leading to cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and exacerbation of cerebral infarction. Lipid radicals are key molecules generated during lipid peroxidation. Therefore, understanding the spatiotemporal behavior of lipid radicals is important to improve the therapeutic outcomes of cerebral infarction.

Background: The effectiveness of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in skin graft fixation has been demonstrated in several clinical studies. However, in vitro and in vivo studies on skin graft fixation with NPWT have been scarce. In this in vivo study, we aimed to determine whether NPWT fixation enhances skin graft survival and how it contributes to improving skin graft survival biologically.

Superficial Temporal Artery Island Flap Combined With Laser Hair Removal for Inadequate Skin Expansion Following Tissue Expansion: A Case Report of Congenital Melanocytic Nevus of the Forehead in an Adult.

Tissue expansion is a handy reconstructive technique for the head and neck region; however, its implementation requires careful planning and surgical experience. If tissue expansion is inadequate, forced closure results in wound tension and risks complications, such as postoperative deformity, wide scarring, and wound dehiscence. We report a case of adult forehead melanocytic nevus excision using a tissue expander (TE) where complications caused by insufficient tissue expansion were avoided by creating a flap using a dog ear.

Urosymphyseal fistula development following treatment for radiation-induced urethral stenosis in three patients with prostate cancer.

Introduction: Urosymphyseal fistula is a rare and devastating complication that develops after radiation therapy for prostate cancer and is often triggered by the treatment of radiation-induced urethral stenosis. Here, we report our experience with urosymphyseal fistulas in three patients with prostate cancer.

Case Presentation: Three patients with prostate cancer developed urethral stenosis after radiotherapy.

Methods: Single and multiple doses of 4 mg of DRSP were orally administered to healthy premenopausal Japanese women.

Background: Primary cardiac myxofibrosarcoma is rare and commonly occurs in the left atrium. Myxofibrosarcoma is aggressive and has a high mortality rate due to its high rate of recurrence. Complete surgical resection is considered important; however, effective treatment options have not been established.

Anaphylaxis in Clinical Trials of Sublingual Immunotherapy Tablets.

Background: There is no consensus method to identify anaphylaxis in sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) trials. Standardized Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA) queries (SMQs) are standardized groupings of MedDRA terms used in drug safety monitoring.

Objective: To develop a method to identify potential anaphylaxis in SLIT-tablet trials using SMQ searches and case definitions of anaphylaxis adopted from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.

TWINS: improved spatial and angular phase calibration for holography.

We present TWINS (TWo INclining Slits), a method for characterizing phase spatial light modulators (SLMs), inspired by Young interferometry. TWINS is an elegant and versatile approach, using minimal equipment and alignment. It measures phase response locally rather than globally, both horizontally and vertically, with high resolution and at wide angles.

Lymphoscintigraphy with single-photon emission computerized tomography/computed tomography for evaluating lymphatic leakage following pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy.

Lymphatic ascites following pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy is a well-known complication. Surgical treatment and interventional radiology are required in a few cases. To determine the appropriate treatment strategy, it is important to preoperatively detect the presence and location of lymphatic leakage.

Mixed lesion of traumatic pseudoaneurysm and pyogenic granuloma on a digit.

Traumatic aneurysms occurring in the digit are extremely rare. We report a case of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm arising from a terminal branch of the finger artery and presenting as a mixed lesion with pyogenic granuloma that was exposed to the outside of the body and treated surgically.

Simultaneous Four Supratentorial Lesions Predict Tube Dependency Due to an Impaired Anticipatory Phase of Ingestion.

This study aimed to identify the neuroanatomical predictors of oropharyngeal dysphagia and tube dependency in patients with supratentorial or infratentorial ischemic strokes. Patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled and were classified into 3 groups: right supratentorial (n = 61), left supratentorial (n = 89), and infratentorial stroke (n = 50). Dysphagia was evaluated by a modified water swallowing test and the Food Intake LEVEL Scale to evaluate oropharyngeal dysphagia and tube dependency, respectively.

House dust mite sublingual immunotherapy tablet safety in adolescents with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis: Worldwide clinical trial results.

Background: The house dust mite (HDM) sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT)-tablet is a treatment option for allergic rhinitis with/without conjunctivitis (AR/C) approved in adults worldwide and in adolescents in some countries.

Objective: To supplement existing adolescent HDM SLIT-tablet safety data by conducting the MT-18 trial in adolescents.

Methods: MT-18 (EudraCT:2020-000446-34) was a phase 3, open-label, single-arm, 28-day safety trial of daily HDM SLIT-tablet (12 SQ-HDM dose) in European adolescents (12-17 years) with HDM AR/C, with or without asthma.

Novel cell culture system for monitoring cells during continuous and variable negative-pressure wound therapy.

Background: Although the clinical efficacy of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is well known, many of its molecular biological mechanisms remain unresolved, mainly due to the difficulty and paucity of relevant in vitro studies. We attempted to develop an in vitro cell culture system capable of real-time monitoring of cells during NPWT treatment.

Materials And Methods: A novel negative-pressure cell culture system was developed by combining an inverted microscope, a stage-top incubator, a sealed metal chamber for cell culture, and an NPWT treatment device.

Optimal blue light irradiation conditions for the treatment of acne vulgaris in a mouse model.

Background: Although blue light is one of the therapeutic approaches used to treat acne vulgaris (AV), there is no consensus on its effectiveness. As a result, it is not recommended in the major acne vulgaris treatment guidelines.

Correlation of callosal angle at the splenium with gait and cognition in normal pressure hydrocephalus.

Objective: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is characterized by ventricular enlargement that deforms the corpus callosum, making the callosal angle (CA) small. The authors aimed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of the CA in different planes in iNPH.

Methods: Forty patients with iNPH were included in the study.

Effect of relative configuration of TEMPO-type nitroxides on ascorbate reduction.

2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-N-oxyl (TEMPO)-type nitroxides are susceptible to bioreduction, leading to a loss of radical properties. Although it has been reported that the steric and electronic environments around the N-O moiety of nitroxides affect the reduction, how the relative configuration of nitroxide derivatives alters it is unclear. In this study, we investigated the effect of diastereomers on the radical properties of C2- and C4-disubstituted TEMPO-type nitroxides.

Myofibroblast-dominant proliferation associated with severe fibrosis in bulbar urethral strictures.

Objectives: Myofibroblast-dominant proliferation (relative to fibroblast proliferation) is the key process in urethral fibrosis, but its association with clinical features is not understood. We conducted a histological analysis of urethral strictures and examined the association between myofibroblast proliferation and stricture characteristics.

Methods: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded urethral sections sliced axially from 175 male patients with bulbar urethral strictures were retrospectively analyzed.

Transperineal bulbovesical anastomosis for extensive posterior urethral stenoses after treatment of prostatic disease.

Objectives: We report our surgical experience of transperineal bulbovesical anastomosis (BVA) for extensive posterior urethral stenosis (PUS).

Methods: Six male patients who had extensive PUS extending from the bulbomembranous urethra to the bladder neck due to prostatic disease treatment and underwent transperineal BVA between 2014 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. BVA was performed according to the elaborate perineal approach for pelvic fracture urethral repair with minor modifications.

Efficacy of urethral reconstruction for urethral stricture associated with hypospadias surgery in adults.

Objectives: We report our experience with urethral reconstruction for hypospadias surgery-related urethral stricture in terms of surgical and patient-reported outcomes.

Methods: Twenty-nine adult males who underwent urethral reconstruction for hypospadias surgery-related urethral stricture between August 2008 and January 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Uroflowmetry and patient-reported outcomes were evaluated at 3, 6, and 12 months, and annually thereafter.

Metachronous lesions in the orbit, retroperitoneum, and pleura of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma: A case report.

Background: Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the orbit is rare, often indolent, but can recur, and spread to extra-nodal sites. Pleural and retroperitoneum recurrences of MALT lymphoma are rare.

Case: A 65-year-old man was referred to our hospital due to right pleural effusion and difficulty in breathing.
