Cytokine Hemoadsorption versus Standard Care in Cardiac Surgery Using the Oxiris® Membrane: the OXICARD single center randomized trial.

Background: Cardiac surgery can lead to dysregulation with a pro-inflammatory state, resulting in adverse outcomes. Hemadsorption using the AN69 membrane (Oxiris membrane) has the properties to chelate inflammatory cytokines. We hypothesized that in patients at high risk of inflammation, the use of the Oxiris membrane could decrease inflammation, preserve endothelial function, and improve postoperative outcomes.

The shared psychotic disorder is a rare psychiatric entity classified in the ICD10 induced delusional disorders and corresponds to the induction by a psychotic subject of a delusion to a subject without any mental disorder. We report a rare case of delusional disorder induced by a schizophrenic patient to her husband.

Kolaviron Ameliorates 7, 12-Dimethylbenzanthracene - Induced Mammary Damage.

Background: Kolaviron (KV) is a flavonoid-rich portion obtained from Garcinia kola seeds with a number of reported pharmacological effects. However, its ameliorative effects on 7,12-Dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA)-induced mammary damage has not been fully investigated, despite the reported use of the seeds in the treatment of inflammatory related disorders.

[Osteonecrosis of the femoral head complicating prophylactic screw fixation for upper femoral epiphyolysis: case report and literature review].

The therapeutic approach for the treatment of children with radiologically "normal" hip presenting with epiphysiolysis of the contralateral upper femur is controversial. We here report the case of a 12-year-old boy with osteonecrosis of radiologically "normal" and asymptomatic left femoral head prophylactically fixed due to acute femoral epiphysiolysis of the contralateral hip. Eight months after first surgery, the patient developed symptoms of avascular osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

Background: The diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) has mostly been relied on a long-used method called sputum smear microscopy. In 2010, Xpert MTB/RIF assay was approved by the World Health Organization for simultaneous TB diagnosis and detection of resistance. Our current study was undertaken to compare the diagnostic performance of Xpert MTB/RIF assay to auramine staining-based light-emitting diode-Fluorescence Microscopy (LED-FM) considering culture as the gold standard method for pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB.

[Safety and Efficacy of Artemether-Lumefantrine and Artesunate-Amodiaquine in Niger].

This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and tolerance of two ACTs widely used for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum in Niger. The study was conducted from September to November 2017, at the Integrated Health Centers of Dogondoutchi and Birni N'Gaouré, in patients aged from 6 months to 15 years, with uncomplicated malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum. They were treated with either Artemether-Lumefantrine (AL) or Artesunate-Amodiaquine (ASAQ).

Leveraging Partnerships to Maximize Global Health Security Improvements in Guinea, 2015-2019.

In response to the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak, a US congressional appropriation provided funds to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support global health security capacity building in 17 partner countries, including Guinea. The 2014 funding enabled CDC to provide more than 300 deployments of personnel to Guinea during the Ebola response, establish a country office, and fund 11 implementing partners through cooperative agreements to support global health security engagement efforts in 4 core technical areas: workforce development, surveillance systems, laboratory systems, and emergency management. This article reflects on almost 4 years of collaboration between CDC and its implementing partners in Guinea during the Ebola outbreak response and the recovery period.

Protocol for cluster randomized evaluation of reaching married adolescents - a gender-synchronized intervention to increase modern contraceptive use among married adolescent girls and young women and their husbands in Niger.

Background: Early marriage and early childbearing are highly prevalent in Niger with 75% of girls married before age 18 years and 42% of girls giving birth between ages 15 and 18 years. In 2012, only 7% of all 15-19-year-old married adolescents (male and female) reported use of a modern contraceptive method with barriers including misinformation, and social norms unsupportive of contraception. To meet the needs of married adolescents and their husbands in Niger, the Reaching Married Adolescents (RMA) program was developed with the goal of improving modern contraceptive method uptake in the Dosso region of Niger.

Discovery of face-centred cubic Os nanoparticles.

We succeeded in controlling the crystal structure of osmium (Os) nanoparticles (NPs). Although Os adopts only a hexagonal close-packed (hcp) structure in the bulk state, a face-centred cubic (fcc) Os was synthesized by a chemical reduction method using an Os acetylacetonate complex as a precursor.

BÜCHI nano spray dryer B-90: a promising technology for the production of metformin hydrochloride-loaded alginate-gelatin nanoparticles.

The current study aimed to formulate gelatin/sodium alginate nanoparticles utilizing BÜCHI nano spray dryer B-90. Nanoparticles possess many of the advantages including new routes of drug administrations and sustained release properties. Utilizing B-90 technology, metformin hydrochloride (MET) nanoparticles were successfully developed.

Surgical treatment of rare case of scapula osteochondroma in a resource limited setting: A case report.

Phytoecological valorization attributes of Mozogo-Gokoro National Park (Cameroon).

Natural and anthropogenic pressures are major concerns about the stability of vegetation in protected areas of the Sudano-Sahelian regions. This study aims to describe the woody flora of Mozogo-Gokoro National Park, submitted to these geographical area constraints in the Far North of Cameroon. Global inventory of this flora is carried out, through three collection units representing strata in vegetation that are previously identified by photo-interpretation, with analyses focusing on compositional diversity parameters.

[Management Of Obstructive Colorectal Cancer In Hospital Principal Of Dakar: A Report Of 37 Cases].

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the managment of obstructive colorectal cancer and to evaluate the different surgical methods.

Patients Et Methods: This retrospective, descriptive and analytical study was carry out from january 2008 to december 2014 in the visceral surgery department of Hospital Principal of Dakar and included 37 patients treated for obstructive colorectal cancer. The prognostic value of regional lymph node metastases in patients of Guangdong Province, China with differentiated thyroid cancer: A multicenter retrospective clinical study.

Although the prognostic value of nodal metastases in differentiated thyroid cancer remains controversial, it is of interest to evaluate and understand the different characteristics of predictive outcomes.A multicenter retrospective study was conducted in 215 untreated patients with differentiated thyroid cancer from July 1997 to July 2015 in 4 medical centers of Guangdong Province. A total of 107 patients with nodal metastases (group A) were compared to 108 patients without metastases (group B).
