Advanced Analysis of Clay Microporosity Using High-Resolution N-Ar Adsorption Isotherms Coupled with the Derivative Isotherm Summation Method.

The textural properties of synthetic and natural clays in the sodium form and exchanged with tetramethylammonium cations (TMA) were characterized using N and Ar physisorption isotherms at cryogenic temperatures. Specific surface areas and micro/mesoporous volumes were determined using the BET and the models. The analysis requires the use of reference isotherms measured at the same temperature on the surface of non-porous materials with an identical chemical composition.

Accuracy of early pregnancy diagnosis and determining pregnancy loss using different biomarkers and machine learning applications in dairy cattle.

This study aimed to compare the accuracy of IFN-τ stimulated gene abundance (ISGs) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), CL blood perfusion by Doppler ultrasound (Doppler-US), plasma concentration of P4 on Day 21 and pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs) test on Day 25 after timed-artificial insemination (TAI) for early pregnancy diagnosis in dairy cows and heifers. Holstein cows (n = 140) and heifers (n = 32) were subjected to a hormonal synchronization protocol and TAI on Day 0. On Day 21 post-TAI, blood samples were collected for PBMC isolation and plasma concentration of P4.

Ramadan and diabetes: What we see, learn and understand from continuous glucose monitoring.

Abstinence from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset characterizes the holy month of Ramadan. For the 50 million Muslims worldwide with diabetes who adhere to this religious fast, the practice results in marked changes in glucose homoeostasis. The sunset meal (Iftar) that breaks the fasting state is followed by exaggerated surges in blood glucose and sustained overnight hyperglycaemia in cases of nocturnal overfeeding.

Fear of dental treatment and its possible effects on oral health.

Working with 59 ambulant patients (average age 42 +/- 16 years), male and female, at the Dental Clinic of the University of Mainz, questions concerning fear of treatment were raised, and the answers compared with clinical findings on the status of oral health and with habits of oral hygiene. Pulse and blood pressure were also measured before and after treatment. 65% of the patients reported some level of fear of dental treatment.
