Association between some environmental risk factors and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder among children in Egypt: a case-control study.

Background: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a complex disease that negatively impacts the social and academic/occupational activities of children and is more common in boys than in girls.

Methods: This case-control study aimed to assess the association between some environmental risk factors and ADHD among children in Alexandria, Egypt. It was carried out at the outpatient clinics of El Shatby Pediatric University Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt, with 252 children (126 cases and 126 controls).

Clinical Characteristics and Appropriateness of Investigations in Children With Headaches at the Emergency Department.

Background: Identifying the cause of headaches in pediatric emergency departments (PEDs) can be challenging due to the lack of comprehensive research. This study aims to identify the frequency, characteristics, and unnecessary diagnostic procedures of patients with headaches in the PED setting.

Methods: A six-month cross-sectional study was conducted at the PED of Alexandria University Children's Hospital, including all children with headaches.

Cystic adventitial disease of the popliteal artery: A case report with review of literature.

Introduction And Importance: Cystic adventitial disease (CAD) is a rare vascular disorder marked by occlusion stemming from the development of a cystic mass within the outer (subadventitial) layer, with a predominant impact on the popliteal artery. The significance of the case presented herein lies in shedding light on a distinct clinical manifestation involving a 40-year-old man who exhibited sporadic calf claudication during ambulation. This instance contributes to the broader understanding of CAD and its diverse clinical presentations, emphasizing the need for further exploration and awareness within the medical community.

Dual Microscope Indocyanine Green Video Angiography and Endoscopic Review to Treat Intracranial Aneurysm: A Review of the Literature Regarding a Case.

The use of the indocyanine green video angiography (ICG-VA) both endoscope and microscope has become popular in recent decades thanks to the safety, efficacy, and added value that they have provided for cerebrovascular surgery. The dual use of these technologies is considered complementary and has helped cerebrovascular surgeons in decision-making, especially for aneurysm clipping surgery; however, its use has been described for both aneurysm surgery, resection of arteriovenous malformations, or even for bypass surgeries. Abnormal CD13/HLA-DR Expression Pattern on Myeloblasts Predicts Development of Myeloid Neoplasia in Patients With Clonal Cytopenia of Undetermined Significance.

Objectives: Patients with clonal cytopenia of undetermined significance (CCUS) are at increased risk of developing myeloid neoplasia (MN). We evaluated whether a simple flow cytometry immunophenotyping (FCIP) assay could differentiate the risk of development of MN in patients with CCUS.

Methods: Bone marrow aspirates were assessed by FCIP panel in a cohort of 80 patients identified as having CCUS based on next-generation sequencing or cytogenetics from March 2015 to May 2020, with available samples.

Screening of behavioral disorders in children with hemophilia.

Aim: To screen types of behavioral problems among children with hemophilia and their relation to the disease parameters.

Methods: Fifty boys, 6-18 years old, with moderate and sever hemophilia were subjected to: history taking, joint evaluation using the Hemophilia Joint Health Score, and behavioral assessment using the Child Behavioral Check List.

Introduction: A common comorbidity in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children is gastrointestinal problems, and a possible link between active gastrointestinal inflammation and autism has been suggested. Faecal calprotectin (FC) is a non-invasive marker for of gastrointestinal inflammation.

Aim: To study the level of FC as a marker of bowel inflammation in children with ASD and its possible relation to gastrointestinal manifestations.

Study of the gut Microbiome Profile in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: a Single Tertiary Hospital Experience.

The role of gut microbiome was recently raised in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental disorders including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The aim of this study was to elucidate changes in gut microbiome in Egyptian autistic children and its possible correlation with the severity of autism and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. The gut bacterial microbiome of 41 ASD children, 45 siblings, and 45 healthy controls were analyzed using quantitative SYBR Green real-time PCR technique targeting 16S rRNA of selected bacteria.

Background: Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) has been the standard of care for the prevention of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) recurrence following resection. Attempts to improve on the result by combining it with other agents have largely failed. This study addresses the result of BCG therapy in our patient population and compares the result with our combination BCG and interferon therapy published earlier.

Evaluation of a combined approach of clinical skills training utilizing near-peers, in-campus faculty and clinicians: An innovative integrated model.

Introduction: Training clinical skills is essential in medicine. Different models of clinical skills courses have been previously suggested. Here, we report an innovative approach adopted to train junior medical students in clinical skills in a multimodal fashion by near-peers, basic scientists with clinical background and senior clinicians.

A Challenging Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma.

Cutaneous peripheral T-cell lymphomas not otherwise specified (CPTL-NOS) are rare neoplasms accounting for just 2% of cutaneous peripheral T-cell lymphomas (CPTL). Only very few case series have been reported. They represent a phenotypically and prognostically heterogenous group of CPTL that do not fit into any of CPTL well-defined subtypes.

Hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor presenting in an 8-year-old boy: A case report and review of literature.

Hepatic inflammatory pseudotumors are uncommon benign lesions. Accurately diagnosing hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor can be very challenging because the clinical presentation and radiological appearances are nonspecific and cannot be certainly distinguished from malignant neoplastic processes. Herein, we present a case of hepatic IPT in an 8-year-old boy who presented to clinic with a 3-mo history of a tender hepatic mass, fever of unknown origin, and 9-kg weight loss.

[About a rare tumor of the kidney: Malignant mixed epithelial and stromal tumor].

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney is a recently described neoplasm that predominantly affects perimenopausal women. Few cases with malignant features have been reported. Here, we report the case of malignant mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney with sarcomatous transformation arising in a 27-year-old female.

The correlation between central auditory processing in autistic children and their language processing abilities.

Aim: To study the auditory profile at different levels of the auditory system in children with ASD and to verify the role of (Central) auditory processing disorder as an essential pathology of the autistic disorder or as an associated co-morbidity, and to establish the correlation between CAP findings and the language delay in these cases.

Patients: The study included 30 children with definite autistic disorder according to DSM-IV-TR criteria and ADI-R among those attending the outpatient neuropsychiatry clinic of Alexandria University Children Hospital at El Shatby. An informed consent was taken from all patients in this part of the study.

Unusual presentation of sarcoidosis: solitary intracranial mass lesion mimicking an intracranial neoplasm: a case report.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease of unknown cause and with a worldwide distribution. Involvement of the central nervous system occurs in a relatively small number of patients with sarcoidosis. Isolated neurosarcoidosis without signs of systemic disease however is a rare.

Hydroxybenzoic acid isomers and the cardiovascular system.

Today we are beginning to understand how phytochemicals can influence metabolism, cellular signaling and gene expression. The hydroxybenzoic acids are related to salicylic acid and salicin, the first compounds isolated that have a pharmacological activity. In this review we examine how a number of hydroxyphenolics have the potential to ameliorate cardiovascular problems related to aging such as hypertension, atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia.
