Approaches to regenerate vocal fold in glottic insufficiency remains to be a focus for exploration. This is attributed to the applications of cells or biological molecules alone result in fast degradation and inadequate for regeneration. Development of an injectable hydrogel for glottic insufficiency is challenging, as it needs to be non-cytotoxic, elastic yet possess good strength and easy to fabricate.

Fungal laryngotracheitis (FLT) is rare, and the diagnosis can be challenging, as its presentation lacks specificity and may resemble other conditions such as granulomatous disease, gastroesophageal reflux, or malignancy. FLT can be very invasive, causing complete laryngotracheal separation, leading to a non-functioning larynx. We report a 39-year-old Indian woman with diabetes who presented to the emergency department with a sore throat, hoarseness, dysphagia, and stridor for two days.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effects of different forms of St. John's Wort extract (HPE), powdered St. John's Wort (PHP), and selenium (Se) on the growth, gut bacteria, and immunity in broiler chicks.
  • The chicks were divided into six groups, where the group receiving the highest dosage of HPE (4.5 mL/kg) showed significantly better weight gain and higher levels of beneficial gut bacteria compared to the control groups.
  • HPE III also resulted in stronger immune responses, as indicated by higher serum antibody levels, while the use of HPE was noted to be cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) followed by voice prosthesis placement stands as the primary method for voice rehabilitation after laryngectomy, heralded for its effectiveness. While generally well-tolerated, the procedure does pose potential long-term complications. These include prosthesis valve leakage, scarring, and prosthesis displacement, all of which can impede phonation capabilities.

Pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) is an abnormal connection between the pharynx and skin that can occur after laryngectomy surgery. It can have a significant negative impact on patient recovery, delaying wound healing, requiring prolonged nil-per-oral (NPO) status, and reducing quality of life. Traditionally, the management of PCF has relied on conservative measures or surgical intervention.

Foreign body (FB) inhalation in the pediatric population is a common emergency referral in otolaryngology practice. Mismanagement can lead to significant morbidity or even mortality. Anesthesiologists conventionally use the Cook® airway exchange catheter (CAEC) during endotracheal tube exchange in the intensive care unit, but its usage as an oxygen conduit is beneficial in other airway procedures.

Introduction: Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) are common among older adults. To guide appropriate prescribing, healthcare professionals often rely on explicit criteria to identify and deprescribe inappropriate medications, or to start medications due to prescribing omission. However, most explicit PIM criteria were developed with inadequate guidance from quality metrics or integrating real-world data, which are rich and valuable data source.

Background: Polypharmacy and the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) are prevalent among older patients admitted to hospitals, posing a heightened risk of adverse drug events. This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a pharmacist-led deprescribing intervention in reducing medications, PIM and improving clinical outcomes, using the locally developed Malaysian Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing Screening tool in Older Adults (MALPIP).

Methods: This is an 18-month cluster-randomized, open-label, parallel-arm controlled trial conducted at 14 public hospitals in the Perak state of Malaysia.

Oncogenic RAS signaling reprograms gene expression through both transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. While transcriptional regulation downstream of RAS is relatively well characterized, how RAS post-transcriptionally modulates gene expression to promote malignancy remains largely unclear. Using quantitative RNA interactome capture analysis, we here reveal that oncogenic RAS signaling reshapes the RNA-bound proteomic landscape of pancreatic cancer cells, with a network of nuclear proteins centered around nucleolin displaying enhanced RNA-binding activity.
