Objectives: To compare the efficacy of chlorhexidine (CHX) and amine fluoride (AF) toothpastes on oral flora in fixed orthodontic treatment patients.

Methods: Thirteen patients were given toothpaste containing AF, and 12 patients were given toothpaste containing CHX. Microbial and periodontal records were taken before, 1 week, and 5 weeks after the bonding procedure.

In recent years, there has been rapid progress in the development of photonic devices based on lead halide perovskite nanocrystals since they possess a set of unique optical and charge transport properties. However, the main limiting factor for their subsequent application is poor stability against exposure to adverse environmental conditions. In this work, a study of a composite material based on perovskite CsPbBr nanocrystals embedded in porous silica microspheres is presented.

The purpose of the study was to research the quantitative composition and sensibility to antibiotics of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms in mouth cavity liquid and parodontal pockets in elderly patients with chronical inflammatory diseases of parodont, namely in patients with chronic cataral gingivitis (38 patients), chronic generalized parodontitis (ChQP; 32 patients, easy form) and in patients with ChQP (34 patients) with relatively heavy form. It was established the increases of quantity microorganisms in mouth cavity liquid of patient all of groups in comparison with healthy group. First of all, it was depended mainly from clinical severity of pathological processes.

By using a bioluminescence ATP assay, we have determined the minimal concentrations of some biocorrosion inhibitors (Katon, Khazar, VFIKS-82, Nitro-1, Kaspii-2, and Kaspii-4) suppressing most common microbial corrosion agents: Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, Desulfovibrio vulgaris, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The cell titers determined by the bioluminescence method, including not only dividing cells but also their dormant living counterparts, are two- to sixfold greater than the values determined microbiologically. It is shown that the bioluminescence method can be applied to determination of cell titers in samples of oil-field waters in the presence of iron ions (up to 260 mM) and iron sulfide (to 186 mg/l) and in the absence or presence of biocidal corrosion inhibitors.

Primary and delayed combined plastic surgery using massive musculocutaneous pedicle flaps composed of musculus pectoralis major, musculus sternocleidomastoideus, musculus trapezius in combination with cellulocutaneous and skin flaps provides appropriate plastic repair of total and subtotal defects of the pharynx and cervical esophagus after combined interventions for oropharyngeal cancer stage III-IV. Composite flaps warrant good and satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcomes in the majority of patients without additional hospital stay.

The effect of mitomycin C and UV on spores before germination and two hours after it was investigated with Streptomyces narbonensis 2a producing beta-1,3/1,4-glucanglucan hydrolase (beta-glucanase). The lethal effect of mitomycin C on the germinating spores was considerably greater than that on the spores. The mutagenic activity of mitomycin C was closely related to the process of spore germination.
