Background: A population-based study delineating the epidemiologic, clinical, and treatment characteristics of femoral neck fractures (FNFs) in elderly patients has not yet been conducted in Turkey. In this nationwide study, the epidemiologic, clinical, and treatment characteristics of patients aged ⩾65 years with FNFs who underwent osteosynthesis, hemiarthroplasty (HA), or total hip arthroplasty (THA) were examined.

Methods: Patients aged ⩾65 years with FNFs were identified in this retrospective, nationwide study.

Background: This study aims to automate the measurement process of posterior condylar offset ratio (PCOR) and anterior condylar offset ratio (ACOR) to improve the Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) evaluation. Accurate calculation of PCOR and ACOR, performed manually by orthopedic surgeons, is crucial for assessing postoperative range of motion and implant positioning. Manual measurements, however, are time-consuming, prone to human error, and subject to variability.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the preferences of orthopedics and traumatology specialists in evaluating the spinopelvic relationship in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) in Türkiye.

Methods: Members of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (n=2485) were invited to fill out the questionnaire. The survey was created using Google Forms and distributed to participants via WhatsApp and Gmail by sharing the link.

The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of deep subgluteal block (DSGB) for pain relief after posterolateral-approached total hip replacement. The cadaver study and observational case series assessed the spread and outcomes of ultrasound-guided DSGB. Results showed low postoperative pain scores, minimal opioid requirements, and no complications related to DSGB.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness and safety of aspirin versus various anticoagulants in preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE) after revision total joint arthroplasty (TJA).
  • A retrospective analysis of 4,575 patients revealed that those taking aspirin had a significantly lower incidence of symptomatic VTE (0.53%) compared to those on other anticoagulants (2.54%).
  • The findings suggest that aspirin may be a safer and equally effective option for VTE prophylaxis in revision TJA, emphasizing the importance of considering individual patient risks when choosing a prophylactic agent.

Background: Vitamin D deficiency is a global problem, and 13 to 75% of patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA) have vitamin D deficiency. Several studies have shown that low preoperative vitamin D levels may increase the risk of postoperative complications, including periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), in patients undergoing primary TJA. Most of the studies are underpowered.

Background: The study addresses the growing number of hemodialysis (HD) patients undergoing joint arthroplasty, who are at higher risk of complications and mortality. Previous research has often overlooked deaths after discharge. This study aimed to examine early outcomes in a large nationwide cohort of patients who underwent arthroplasty for elective and fracture-related reasons.

Objective: The optimal glycemic control marker before total hip or knee arthroplasty remains inconclusive. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is widely used, while fructosamine may be valuable for predicting periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Fructosamine levels can be affected by serum albumin levels; albumin-corrected fructosamine (AlbF) can be calculated to overcome this issue.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a severe complication that can occur after major orthopedic procedures. As VTE-related morbidity and mortality are a significant concern for both medical professionals and patients, and preventative measures are typically employed. Multiple organizations, including the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), have developed guidelines for VTE prophylaxis specifically in patients undergoing joint replacement procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results show no significant difference in pain levels or hemarthrosis between the coagulation and control groups, although the coagulation group experienced a longer duration of anesthesia.
  • * The conclusion suggests that the use of radiofrequency bleeding control after tourniquet release does not improve postoperative outcomes, indicating a need for further research.

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a rare yet devastating complication following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Early and accurate diagnosis of PJI is paramount in order to maximize the chances of successful treatment. However, we are yet to identify a single "gold standard" test for the diagnosis of PJI.

Background: Performing a total hip arthroplasty for a high hip dislocation is technically demanding and presents several challenges, with appropriate evaluation of the bone morphology of the hip and proper implant selection being critical for successful outcomes.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of cementless modular total hip arthroplasty for the treatment of high hip dislocations with sub-trochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy.

Methods: Sixty-eight hips with a high hip dislocation, were treated using a sub-trochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy and cementless modular total hip arthroplasty, retrospectively reviewed.

Objective: The aim of this study was to provide anatomic considerations in the first metatarsophalangeal joint (FMPJ) innervation and to evaluate the feasibility of the denervation surgery in the treatment of hallux rigidus.

Methods: In this cadaveric study, 14 fresh frozen cadaveric transtibial amputation specimens was used. For nerve dissection, dorsal and plantar longitudinal incision centered over the FMPJ were performed.

Background: This study aimed to assess the baseline levels of D-dimer, C-reactive protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and monitor the natural course of these serum markers after uneventful primary total joint arthroplasty.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled 81 patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty. The level of serum D-dimer, CRP, and ESR was measured preoperatively and on postoperative days 1, 3, 5, 15, and 45.
