T-cell malignancies following chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapies are partly related to insertional mutagenesis, but the longitudinal evolution of CAR-integration sites (IS) remains understudied. We performed an IS analysis in blood from three tisagenlecleucel (lentiviral), one axicabtagene-ciloleucel and one brexucabtagene-autoleucel (gammaretrovirals) patient at peak expansion and 1-year follow-up. All were complete responders.

Faculty Perceptions of an Accessibility Initiative for Enhancing Student Success in Nursing Education.

Background: This quality improvement project evaluated the effectiveness, barriers, and perceived student effects of an accessibility initiative, including Universal Design for Learning, from faculty perspectives across a school of nursing's five campuses in the Pacific Northwest.

Method: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used for this study. Eighty faculty completed a survey with quantitative and qualitative components.

Deep-learning based analysis of in-vivo confocal microscopy images of the subbasal corneal nerve plexus' inferior whorl in patients with neuropathic corneal pain and dry eye disease.

Purpose: To evaluate and compare subbasal corneal nerve parameters of the inferior whorl in patients with dry eye disease (DED), neuropathic corneal pain (NCP), and controls using a novel deep-learning-based algorithm to analyze in-vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) images.

Methods: Subbasal nerve plexus (SNP) images of the inferior whorl of patients with DED (n = 49, 77 eyes), NCP (n = 14, 24 eyes), and controls (n = 41, 59 eyes) were taken with IVCM and further analyzed using an open-source artificial intelligence (AI)-based algorithm previously developed by our group. This algorithm automatically segments nerves, immune cells, and neuromas in the SNP.

CAR T-cell therapy induces a high rate of prolonged remission in relapsed primary CNS lymphoma: Real-life results of the LOC network.

The prognosis of relapsed primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) remains dismal. CAR T-cells are a major contributor to systemic lymphomas, but their use in PCNSL is limited. From the LOC network database, we retrospectively selected PCNSL who had leukapheresis for CAR-T cells from the third line of treatment, and, as controls, PCNSL treated with any treatment, at least in the third line and considered not eligible for ASCT.

Patterns of Health-related Quality of Life in Men Who Inject Drugs: A Survey in Southeast Iran.

Objectives: Understanding patterns of quality of life in people who inject drugs (PWID) can help healthcare providers plan and manage their health problems in a more focused manner. Therefore, the current study aimed to identify patterns of health-related quality of life in PWID in southeast Iran.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in southeast Iran on men who had injected drugs at least once during the last year.

Allocation of water in the situation of climate change presents various uncertainties. Consequently, decisions must be made to ensure stability and functionality across different climatic scenarios. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of adaptation strategies in the agricultural sector, including a 5% increase in irrigation efficiency (S1) and a shift in irrigation method to Dry-DSR (direct seeded rice) under conditions of climatic uncertainty using a decision-making approach.

Development of higher-order thinking in health profession education: A comprehensive toolkit for medical educators.

Background: Higher-order thinking (HOT) is widely recognized as an essential objective of health profession education (HPE). Based on Lipman's three-dimensional model of thinking, we investigated strategies for the development of HOT including critical thinking (CT), creative thinking, and caring thinking in HPE in three consecutive studies. Fostering students' CT is regarded as an outcome of HPE.

Cecostomy tubes improve bowel continence for pediatric patients with spina bifida: A retrospective analysis of outcomes from a single clinic.

Purpose: Pediatric patients with spina bifida often experience neurogenic bowel dysfunction. Although cecostomy tubes could improve bowel continence, their effectiveness is not well established in this population. The aims of this study were to better understand the effectiveness of cecostomy tubes relative to other management strategies (between-subject) and to explore their effectiveness among patients who received these placements (within-subject).

Delayed presentation of surgically induced scleral necrosis after I-BRITE procedure treated with immunosuppressive therapy.

Surgically induced scleral necrosis (SISN) is an uncommon complication of ocular procedures. Cosmetic eye-whitening surgery involves conjunctival and Tenon's capsule dissection, cautery, and mitomycin C application. We report the case of a 36-year-old white woman referred to our clinic for severe pain, scleral inflammation, and necrosis in both eyes 9 years after I-BRITE, an elective eye-whitening procedure.

Open-Source Automated Segmentation of Neuronal Structures in Corneal Confocal Microscopy Images of the Subbasal Nerve Plexus With Accuracy on Par With Human Segmentation.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to perform automated segmentation of corneal nerves and other structures in corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) images of the subbasal nerve plexus (SNP) in eyes with ocular surface diseases (OSDs).

Methods: A deep learning-based 2-stage algorithm was designed to perform segmentation of SNP features. In the first stage, to address applanation artifacts, a generative adversarial network-enabled deep network was constructed to identify 3 neighboring corneal layers on each CCM image: epithelium, SNP, and stroma.

Ocular surface disease: a known yet overlooked side effect of topical glaucoma therapy.

Ocular surface disease (OSD), a disorder affecting the lacrimal and meibomian glands and the corneal and conjunctival epithelium, is a well-known complication of topical glaucoma therapy. OSD can present as a new or pre-existing condition that virtually any anti-glaucoma formulation can exacerbate. As such, both glaucoma and OSD frequently coexist.

Susceptibility of urinary Enterobacteriaceae to selected antimicrobials in an out-patient setting in Wallonia-Belgium: retrospective analysis over 5 years period (2018-2022).

Objective: Increasing antimicrobial resistance in urinary tract infection is a major healthcare concern. In this study, we evaluate the patterns of resistance exhibited by the most implicated microorganisms in urine infections. This approach is a prerequisite for an appropriate and successful empiric therapy in ambulatory patients.

Wessely corneal ring phenomenon: An unsolved pathophysiological dilemma.

The cornea is a densely innervated avascular tissue showing exceptional inflammatory and immune responses. The cornea is a site of lymphangiogenic and angiogenic privilege devoid of blood and lymphatic vessels that limits the entry of inflammatory cells from the adjacent and highly immunoreactive conjunctiva. Immunological and anatomical differences between the central and peripheral cornea are also necessary to sustain passive immune privilege.

Anomalous thickness dependence of photoluminescence quantum yield in black phosphorous.

Black phosphorus has emerged as a unique optoelectronic material, exhibiting tunable and high device performance from mid-infrared to visible wavelengths. Understanding the photophysics of this system is of interest to further advance device technologies based on it. Here we report the thickness dependence of the photoluminescence quantum yield at room temperature in black phosphorus while measuring the various radiative and non-radiative recombination rates.

Noxious effects of riot control agents on the ocular surface: Pathogenic mechanisms and management.

Riot Control Agents (RCAs) are chemical compounds used by law enforcement agencies to quell violent demonstrations as an alternative to lethal force and as part of police/military training. They are also known as tear gases because of the hallmark ocular irritation and lacrimation they cause. The most common RCAs include oleoresin capsicum (contained in Mace and pepper spray), chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, dibenzoxazepine, and chloroacetophenone (previously the main content of Mace); some of which have been in use for decades.
