Neural tissue engineering is one of the most promising strategies for treatment of nerve tissue injuries. Three-dimensional (3D) environment mimics in vivo conditions for cells. 3D distribution and growth of the cells within the scaffold are both important for neural tissue engineering.

Nerve tissue engineering (NTE) is one of the most promising methods to restore central nerve systems in human health care. Three-dimensional (3D) distribution and growth of cells within the porous scaffold composed of nanofibers are of clinical significance for NTE. In this study, an attempt was made to develop and characterize the use of fibrin gel and human endometrial stem cells (hEnSCs)-derived neuron-like cells simultaneously to support cell behavior especially neuron outgrowth.

Objective: Hydatid cyst or cystic echincoccosis (CE) is an important medical and veterinary problem in the world, especially in Iran. Domestic intermediate hosts are a major reservoir for the disease in humans. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of hydatid cysts in slaughtered animals in Isfahan, central part of Iran.

Current study encourages the differentiation of human endometrial stem cells into osteoblast-like cells using osteogenic media for potential bone tissue engineering purposes. A biomimetic nanocomposite scaffolds based on GEL/calcium phosphate were fabricated and behavior of differentiated osteoblast cells was evaluated after seeding on this scaffold. Prepared scaffolds were assessed in terms of attachment, alkaline phosphatase activity, gene expression and proliferation of osteoblast cells.

Bone matrix consists of two major phases at the nanoscale: organic and hydroxyapatite. Nanotechnology as a diverse and interdisciplinary area of research has the capacity to revolutionise many areas of applications such as bone tissue engineering. Nanohydroxyapatite/gelatin composite has higher osteoblast attachment and proliferation than micro-sized ones, and shorter culturing period and lower cell seeding density compared to pure gelatin.

In this study, double diffusion method in a physiologically relevant environment was used to prepare a biomimetic gelatin-amorphous calcium phosphate nanocomposite scaffold. The precipitated calcium phosphate within gelatin as well as produced nanocomposite scaffolds were characterized by the commonly used bulk techniques. The results showed that nanocomposite scaffolds were porous with three-dimensionally interconnected microstructure, pore size ranging from 150 to 350 μm.

In this study, a nano-structured scaffold was designed for bone repair using hydroxapatite and gelatin as its main components. The scaffold was prepared via layer solvent casting combined with freeze-drying and lamination techniques and characterized by the commonly used bulk techniques. The biocompatibility and osteoconductivity of this scaffold and its capacity to promote bone healing were also evaluated.

In this research, new bioactive nanocomposite scaffolds were successfully developed using poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), cross-linked gelatin and nanoparticles of hydroxyapatite (HAp) after testing different solvents and methods. First, HAp powder was synthesized via a chemical precipitation technique and characterized. Then, the nanocomposites were prepared through layer solvent casting combined with freeze-drying and lamination techniques.

During the last decades, there have been several attempts to combine bioactive materials with biocompatible and biodegradable polymers to create nanocomposite scaffolds with excellent biocompatibility, bioactivity, biodegradability and mechanical properties. In this research, the nanocomposite scaffolds with compositions based on PVA and HAp nanoparticles were successfully prepared using colloidal HAp nanoparticles combined with freeze-drying technique for tissue engineering applications. In addition, the effect of the pH value of the reactive solution and different percentages of PVA and HAp on the synthesis of PVA/HAp nanocomposites were investigated.

Tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) is one of the fibrin-specific serine proteases that play a crucial role in the fibrinolytic system. The rapid clearance of the drug from the circulation, caused by its active uptake in the liver, has lead to complicated clinical applications. Different forms of plasminogen activators have been developed to treat thrombotic disease.

The impact of intestinal parasitic infection in renal transplant recipients requires careful consideration in the developing world. However, there have been very few studies addressing this issue in Iran. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections in renal transplant recipients in Iran.

In this study, a nanostructured scaffold was designed for bone repair using hydroxyapatite (HA) and gelatin (GEL) as its main components. Nanopowders of HA were synthesized, and together with GEL, used to engineer a 3-dimensional nanocomposite combining 3 techniques of layer solvent casting, freeze-drying, and lamination. The results show that the scaffold possesses a 3-dimensional interconnected homogenous porous structure with a porosity of 82% and pore sizes ranging from 300 to 500 mum.

Cryptosporidium is an important protozoan that cause diarrheal illness in humans and animals. Different species of Cryptosporidium have been reported and it is believed that species characteristics are an important factor to be considered in strategic planning for control. We therefore analyzed oocysts from human and animal isolates of Cryptosporidium by PCR-RFLP to determine strain variation in Isfahan.

Cryptosporidium are commonly identified as intestinal pathogens in humans and animals. Fecal samples from 480 cattle randomly selected from 30 regions in Isfahan, Iran, were examined to investigate the prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection. Cryptosporidium oocysts were identified by using sheather's concentration and the Ziehl-Neelsen modified staining technique in 30 of 480 cattle ranging from less than 6 mo of age to older than 1 yr of age.

Blastocystis hominis is commonly found in the intestinal tract of humans. Although the pathogenicity of this unicellular parasite is controversial, anti-protozoan agents are usually administered to infected individuals. At present, the first choice of chemotherapeutic agent is Metronidazole as described in the literature.
