African swine fever (ASF), a severe and highly contagious haemorrhagic viral disease of pigs, is becoming a major threat not only in Malaysia but around the world. The first confirmed case of ASF in Malaysia was reported in February 2021. Despite the emergence of ASF in Malaysia, genetic information on this causative pathogen for the local livestock is still limited.

A state-of-the-art review on lignocellulosic biomass-derived activated carbon for adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of pollutants: a property and mechanistic study.

A promising water treatment method involves using biomass-derived activated carbon (AC) to remove emerging pollutants from wastewater due to its adsorption capacity, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Notwithstanding, the existing literature lacks comprehensive studies that specifically focus on removing contaminants in water by comparing the effectiveness of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation methods. Additionally, there is not much emphasis on analyzing the combined processes of adsorption-photocatalytic degradation utilizing AC.

Health-related quality of life in adults with metabolic syndrome: a multi-level analysis of family and individual level variation.

Purpose: The current study aimed to investigate the associations between metabolic syndrome (MetS) with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using multilevel analysis among the Iranian adult population.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the framework of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS). Participants were 6113 participants (3318 women and 2795 men) aged≥20 years of the TLGS seventh phase who had completed data on HRQoL and MetS.

Polycaprolactone/polyacrylic acid/graphene oxide composite nanofibers as a highly efficient sorbent to remove lead toxic metal from drinking water and apple juice.

Due to the characteristics of electrospun nanofibers (NFs), they are considered a suitable substrate for the adsorption and removal of heavy metals. Electrospun nanofibers are prepared based on optimized polycaprolactone (PCL, 12 wt%) and polyacrylic acid (PAA, 1 wt%) polymers loaded with graphene oxide nanoparticles (GO NPs, 1 wt%). The morphological, molecular interactions, crystallinity, thermal, hydrophobicity, and biocompatibility properties of NFs are characterized by spectroscopy (scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Thermogravimetric analysis), contact angle, and MTT tests.

Salmonella serovars trend in poultry Malaysia from 2011 to 2020.

Data and geographical trend of Salmonella serovars infecting poultry in Malaysia is limited. In this study, the trend of Salmonella serovars infection was presented for the past ten years from 2011 to 2020 and the predominant serovars were mapped based on geographical distribution. Analysis of passive surveillance data demonstrated a shift of Salmonella serovars that infected poultry in Malaysia.

The role of point-of-care ultrasound in the assessment of pelvic urine leakage and diagnosis of urinoma.

Background: Urinoma, a rare condition resulting from urine leakage due to trauma to the kidney, bladder, or urethra, is typically diagnosed using enhanced computed tomography urogram with delayed imaging. This report presents two cases of urinoma likely caused by overdistention of the renal pelvis following excessive fluid intake and the presence of a ureteral stone.

Case Presentation: We present two cases of 36-year-old and 38-year-old patients who presented with flank pain.

T1 and T2 weighted lesions and cognition in multiple Sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Considering the different results regarding the correlation between Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) structural measures and cognitive dysfunction in patients with MS, we aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis study to investigate the correlation between T1 and T2 weighted lesions and cognitive scores to find the most robust MRI markers for cognitive function in MS population.

Methods: The literature of this paper was identified through a comprehensive search of electronic datasets including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase in February 2022. Studies that reported the correlation between cognitive status and T1 and T2 weighted lesions in MS patients were selected.

White blood cell and platelet distribution widths are associated with hypertension: data mining approaches.

In this paper, we are going to investigate the association between Hypertension (HTN) and routine hematologic indices in a cohort of Iranian adults. The data were obtained from a total population of 9704 who were aged 35-65 years, a prospective study was designed. The association between hematologic factors and HTN was assessed using logistic regression (LR) analysis and a decision tree (DT) algorithm.
