Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the presence of human parvovirus B19 (B19V) in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) among Iranian patients, finding B19V DNA in 36.1% of the examined tumors.
  • * The research involved analyzing HNSCC specimens using advanced techniques and also included control samples from healthy individuals, revealing a significant difference in B19V positivity between patients and controls.
  • * Results suggested a strong association between B19V presence in tumor tissues and high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, emphasizing the need for further research to understand B19V's role in HNSCC development.*

High-risk human papillomaviruses (hr-HPVs) are the key risk factors implicated in the development of a significant proportion of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs). We aimed to investigate the distribution of hr-HPV types and HPV16 lineages in a sample of patients with HNSCC and the possible association between HPV status and the expression of P16INK4A and NF-κB in Iranian HNSCC patients. We examined 108 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) histologically confirmed primary SCC tissue specimens of different head and neck anatomical sites.

Background: Interleukin-33 (IL-33) has been recently discovered as an influential factor in the process of tumor immunity, and is presented in cancer pathogenesis.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the serum levels of IL-33 in patients with benign and malignant Salivary gland tumors (SGTs).

Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 47 samples of malignant SGTs including 18 mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), 8 adenoid cystic carcinoma (ADCC), 21 malignant mixed tumor (MMT), and 14 benign pleomorphic adenoma (PA).

Introduction: Endostatin is a C-terminal proteolytic fragment of collagen XVIII and, as with angiostatin and thrombospondin, is known as an antiangiogenic agent. The aim of this study was to assess the level of serum endostatin in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and its association with the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor.

Materials And Methods: Using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit, we investigated the circulating levels of endostatin in the blood serum of 45 patients with oral SCC and 45 healthy controls.

Oral mucositis (OM) is one of the cancer chemotherapy-related side effects which can affect the quality of life of affected patients. This study was designed to investigate the healing effect of Elaeagnus angustifolia in 5-flurouracil (5-FU)-induced OM in golden hamster. Fifty-six adult male golden hamsters received three intraperitoneal injections of 5-FU at a dose of 60 mg/kg on days 0, 5, and 10.

Statement Of The Problem: Oral mucositis (OM) is a common side effect of anti-cancer drugs and needs significant attention for its prevention.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the healing effects of olive leaf extract on 5-fluorouracil-induced OM in golden hamster.

Materials And Method: OM was induced in 63 male golden hamsters by the combination of 5-fluorouracil injections (days 0, 5 and 10) and the abrasion of the cheek pouch (days 3 and 4).

Background: Proliferation markers widely have been used to diagnose and determine the behaviour and prognosis of benign and malignant tumours. Minichromosome maintenance 3 (MCM3) is a novel proliferation marker. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare MCM3 with Ki-67 in diagnosis of salivary gland tumours.
