The plasmid pAnox1, isolated from Anoxybacillus gonensis 05S15, was sequenced and characterized as a circular, double-stranded DNA molecule of 1592 base pairs with a GC content of 40.01 %. Despite its cryptic nature and small genome, bioinformatic analyses identified conserved motifs associated with replication-related proteins, though BLAST searches revealed no significant homology with other plasmids.

Purpose: This study aims to demonstrate the performance of machine learning algorithms to distinguish clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) from clinically insignificant prostate cancer (ciPCa) in prostate bi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using radiomics features.

Methods: MRI images of patients who were diagnosed with cancer with histopathological confirmation following prostate MRI were collected retrospectively. Patients with a Gleason score of 3+3 were considered to have clinically ciPCa, and patients with a Gleason score of 3+4 and above were considered to have csPCa.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to predict stages of liver fibrosis and necroinflammation using various ultrasound measurements, specifically 2D shear wave elastography (2D-SWE), transient elastography (Fibroscan), and shear wave dispersion (SWD).
  • - Significant findings showed that 2D-SWE and TE effectively detected different stages of hepatic fibrosis, with specific cutoff values leading to reliable categorizations, while SWD was useful for identifying levels of necroinflammation.
  • - The conclusion emphasizes that both 2D-SWE and TE provide a noninvasive means to assess liver damage stages, with SWD being beneficial for detecting inflammation in the liver.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. In addition to methods such as prostate-specific antigen test, digital rectal examination, and transrectal ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging has an important role for accurate and reproducible diagnosis. However, guidance in targeted biopsies and recent use in determining localization for treatment increase its importance.

Multimode chromatographic separations are highly desirable in pharmaceutical and environmental sciences. Current study deals with the application of newly developed mixed-mode end capped-immobilized humic acid onto an aminopropyl silica based chromatographic column for separation and identification of six drugs belonging to different therapeutic groups for its applicability in pharmaceutical industries. For this, central composite design was used to evaluate the separation and resolution by optimization of three most effective parameters (acetonitrile%, flow rate, and pH of mobile phase).

Background: The present study aimed to investigate the changes in the course of acute appendicitis during the pandemic period by comparing the cases treated during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with those in the pre-pandemic period.

Methods: The study was conducted with 601 children aged 1-18 years who were operated for acute appendicitis between May 1, 2019, and February 29, 2020 (Group I) and between March 1 and December 31, 2020 (Group II). The demographic and disease characteristics as well as the treatment processes were compared between the groups.

Objectives: The reasons why the maxillary posterior region is challenging for dentists are its structure and anatomical variations. For this reason, it is necessary to have complete knowledge about the anatomy of this region. In dentistry, necessary information for the desired evaluation in this region can be provided by CBCT.

Article Synopsis
  • A machine learning decision support system was developed to improve COVID-19 diagnostics by utilizing routine lab parameters, aiming to reduce misdiagnoses and testing costs.
  • The study involved reviewing patient files, focusing on demographic, CT, and lab data from both asymptomatic individuals with negative and positive RT-PCR tests.
  • The proposed system demonstrated high accuracy rates in detecting COVID-19, achieving 97.56% through CT image classification using a specific hybrid method (AlexNet-SVM) and 97.86% when incorporating laboratory data.

Objective: In the initial phases of parenchymal diseases, the only finding would be an increase in organ size. We aimed to provide percentile charts of solid intraabdominal organ sizes by age for Turkish children on contrast-enhanced computed tomography images and reveal relative size ratios.

Materials And Methods: A total of 800 abdominal computed tomography examinations of otherwise healthy children (468 males, 332 females) were enrolled.

Objectives: Radiographic evaluation of the third molar maturation is used to estimate dental age, especially in adolescence. This study aimed to assess the application of three age estimation methods (Cameriere's third molar maturity index (I), Demirjian's maturation stages, and The London Atlas) to determine whether an individual is 18 years or older (adult) or younger than 18 years (minor).

Materials And Methods: The dental age was estimated using the I, Demirjian's maturation stages, and The London Atlas methods on panoramic radiograms of a total of 500 Turkish individuals aged 14-22 years.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols in the combined form are known as tocols. Changes of total and individual tocols and sterols concentration of canola oil and deodorizer distillate (DD) during different processing stages were evaluated with the application of gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). For sterols analysis, GC coupled with flame ionization detector (FID) was used while tocols in canola oil samples and DD, normal phase (NP) HPLC was applied.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has led to widespread infection and over 2 million fatalities, with RT-PCR tests being the standard method for detection but having a significant false negative rate of 15%-20%.
  • A proposed solution, called Scat-NET, leverages a 25-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) to analyze scattergram images from blood samples, which provide crucial immune cell counts useful for assessing disease presence.
  • This novel approach showed an impressive accuracy of 92.4%, highlighting its potential as an effective alternative or supplementary test for COVID-19, especially for patients with negative RT-PCR but positive CT results.

In the present study, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used for the separation of tocopherols and triglycerides of processed soybean oil and deodorizer distillate (DD). The results of normal and reversed-phase modes of HPLC revealed that concentrations of tocopherols and triglycerides content were decreased during the neutralization, bleaching, and deodorization processes. The loss of individual tocopherols ranged between 55.

The symptoms of Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) and β-thalassemia (β-TT) disease are similar and the distinction between them is time consuming and costly. There are several indices used to differentiate IDA from β-thalassemia disease. Complete Blood Count (CBC) is a rapid, inexpensive and accessible test for the diagnosis of anemia and is used as a primary test.

A new humic acid based stationary phase has been used, for the first time, to achieve the separation and quantification of paracetamol and caffeine in pharmaceutical preparations under reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography conditions. Central composite design was applied as a powerful tool to optimize the most dominant parameters that influence the resolution of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, that is, mobile phase composition (acetonitrile percentage in water), flow rate, and column temperature. The optimum conditions were obtained as 21.
