Article Synopsis
  • Strengthening the infraspinatus is crucial for shoulder rehabilitation, and this study investigates the effects of different loads and positions on muscle activity during isometric external rotation exercises.
  • Sixteen healthy adults performed the exercises in both seated and supine positions with varying loads (0.5 kg, 1 kg, 2 kg) to measure changes in electromyographic activity of the infraspinatus and other shoulder muscles.
  • Results indicated that the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid showed greater activity in the supine position, especially at lower loads, suggesting this position is beneficial for gradual strengthening without over-activating compensatory muscles like the upper trapezius and biceps brachii.
