The role of trauma on temporomandibular joint ankylosis and mandibular growth retardation: an experimental study.

The purpose of this pilot study was to analyze the role of different types of trauma in the formation of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. The specific aim was to explore the physical and histological effects of trauma on temporomandibular joint and mandibular growth. Fifty-five growing white male guinea pigs were used for the study.

Effects of prophylactic intravenous immunoglobulin-G therapy on humoral and cellular immune components and their functions in burned patients.

In this study on patients with thermal trauma, we examined the effects of standard therapy plus prophylactic polyclonal immunoglobulin G (IgG) treatment on humoral and cellular contents, cell phenotype and function of the immune system, and compare these with those found in patients receiving only standard therapy. The quantitative, peripheral-blood mononuclear cell panel shows a decrease in the total number of T-lymphocytes and an increase in the natural killer (NK) cells of standard therapy patients 3 weeks following the burn. We found that intravenous IgG treatment does not have an important effect on T lymphocytes and the proportion of their subpopulations, but rather causes a significant decrease in the number of B lymphocytes and an increase in the number of NK cells.

[Investigation of relation between anxiety and TMJ dysfunction in dental students].

In this study relation between Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD) and anxiety was investigated. For this purpose 2 different questionnaires were given to a total of 360 students (192 girls and 160 boys) aiming to determine the anxiety levels and their tendency to develop TMJD. After obtaining the results from the questionnaire for TMJD, the students are first divided into 2 main groups according to have TMJD or not, then into 5 consisting of "bruxism", "occlusion", "trauma", "combined" and "normal" groups.
