The quality of an original scientific article depends, in addition to the relevance of the subject and the validity of the method, on the conformity to the principles of the scientific medical writing (SMW) with regard to both structure and style. For the structure, the IMR@D® plan (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References) is often used. For the style, the C2PS rule (concise, clear, precise and simple) is essential.

In this study, we have monitored the potential activity of a foodborne and waterborne pathogenic bacterium, Salmonella typhi, under starvation conditions. The interaction between lytic phage and starved-VBNC pathogenic bacteria was studied to establish reliable methods for the detection of active cells before resuscitation. The analysis of phage kinetic parameters has demonstrated the flexibility of lytic with the quantity and mainly the quality of host cells.

Purpose: Several studies raised the effects of Ramadan fasting on healthy adults spirometric data, but none was performed in children. The aim of this study was to compare the spirometric data of a group of faster adolescents (n = 26) with an age-matched non-faster one (n = 10).

Methods: This comparative quasi-experimental study, including 36 healthy males aged 12 to 15 years, was conducted during the summer 2015 (Ramadan: June 18 to July 16).

The present study aimed to evaluate the potential protective and antioxidant effect of polysaccharides (PS) extracted from Ulva lactuca against thiacloprid (THC) induced nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. The antioxidant capacity of PS was tested in vitro using ABTS radical scavenging activity and plasmid DNA cleavage assays andin vivo on adult male rats treated for 30 days. Animals were allocated into four groups: control; THC (22.

Introduction: The validity of the published plethysmographic reference equations specific to adults living in Eastern Algeria (RE-EA) in the interpretation of spirometric results in adult natives of Northern Algeria has not been assessed.

Aim: To test the application of the RE-EA (Constantine, mean altitude=694m) to a population of healthy adults living in Algiers (mean altitude=153m).

Methods: The plethysmographic parameters of 453 healthy adults living in Algiers (234 women; age: 45±15 years, height: 1.

Plant annexins are proteins with multiple functions and roles in plant development and responses to abiotic stresses. We report here the functional analysis of the TdAnn12 annexin protein isolated from Triticum durum Desf. We have previously shown that TdAnn12 expression is highly induced by different abiotic stresses.

Stress-associated proteins (SAPs), such as A20/AN1 zinc-finger domain-containing proteins, have emerged as a novel class of proteins involved in abiotic stress signaling, and they are important candidates for preventing the loss of yield caused by exposure to environmental stresses. In a previous report, it was found that the ectopic-expression of Lobularia maritima stress-associated protein, LmSAP, conferred tolerance to abiotic and heavy metal stresses in transgenic tobacco plants. This study aimed to investigate the functions of the A20 and AN1 domains of LmSAP in salt and osmotic stress tolerance.

No prior study has evaluated the impacts of Ramadan intermittent fasting (RIF) on oxidant/antioxidant stress (OS/AOS) biomarkers in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The aim of this study was to assess the impacts of RIF on some OS/AOS biomarkers measured in male patients with stable COPD. Fifteen COPD patients (mean age: 71 ± 6 years) fasting Ramadan in 2017 volunteered to take part in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • ABCB4 is an important protein that helps transport a substance called phosphatidylcholine in liver cells, and its deficiency can lead to serious conditions like progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3 (PFIC3).
  • Researchers tested a drug called roscovitine, initially for cystic fibrosis, to see if it could improve the function of a defective ABCB4 variant, finding that it corrected the variant's traffic to the cell surface but was toxic at certain concentrations.
  • By developing non-toxic analogues of roscovitine, they successfully improved the function and traffic of multiple ABCB4 variants, suggesting these analogues could be potential treatments for severe liver diseases linked to these genetic variations.

Stress associated Protein from Lobularia maritima (LmSAP) transcripts showed up-regulation in response to wounding, Methyl-jasmonate acid, Picolinic acid, and ethephon treatments. The antioxidant activities of the purified LmSAP protein were evaluated using various in vitro and in vivo assays. LmSAP has an excellent DPPH scavenging ability and exhibits notable reducing power capacity and led to a decrease in TBARS values.

Studies evaluating the effects of narghile use on the periodontium present conflicting conclusions. This study aimed to compare the periodontal status of exclusive narghile smokers (ENSs, n = 74) to that of exclusive cigarette smokers (ECSs, n = 74). Males aged 20-40 years were recruited to participate in this comparative study.

The main goal of the present study was to enhance the rhizobacterium potential in a horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland system planted with Phragmites australis, through environmentally friendly biological approaches. The bioinoculation of antagonist bacteria has been used to promote higher rhizosphere competence and improve pathogenic bacteria removal from wastewater. The experiment was performed both with single and sequential bioinoculation.

Nicotine is a potential inducer of oxidative stress, through which it can damage numerous biological molecules. Natural antioxidants that prevent or slow the progression and severity of nicotine toxicity may have a significant health impact. The purpose of this study, conducted on Wistar rats, was to evaluate the beneficial effects of green tea () extract on nicotine treatment-induced damage on kidney.

Primary lymphoma presenting a solitary lesion of the chest wall is extremely rare, as the majority of chest-wall tumors arise from metastasis. We report a case of a 64-year-old man with no history of HIV infection or pyothorax who presented with dry cough, right pleuritic pain and dyspnea. A computed tomography scan revealed an irregular pleural mass invading his right chest wall with pleural effusion.

The present study aimed (1) to investigate the chemical composition as well as the anti-inflammatory properties and in vitro antioxidant activity of Citrus aurantium peel essential oil (pEOCa) and (2) to evaluate its potential effect in vivo. The main results showed that the major components of pEOCa are Limonene and Linalool. Additionally, DPPH scavenging ability and β-carotene bleaching inhibition tests confirmed the antioxidant capacity of pEOCa.
