Optic neuritis in Turkish children and adolescents: A multicenter retrospective study.

Background: Various etiologies may underlie optic neuritis, including autoantibody-mediated disorders described in the last decade. We re-examined demographic, clinical, laboratory features and prognostic factors in pediatric patients with autoimmune optic neuritis according to current knowledge.

Methods: Cases of pediatric ON from 27 centers in Türkiye diagnosed between 2009 and 2022 were included for retrospective evaluation.

The influence of different tooth proportions obtained using digital smile design on the perception of smile esthetics.

Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of designs using different esthetic dental proportions made with a digital smile design program on the esthetic perception of individuals of different ages, genders and educational statuses.

Materials And Methods: Different smile designs were made on facial photos taken of a female and male model using a smile design program. Four different dental proportions (golden proportion [GPR], golden percentage [GPE]), Preston proportion [P] and recurring esthetic dental proportion [RED]) and two different tooth shapes (oval and square) were used.

Deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2 as an unrecognized cause of early-onset stroke and cranial nerve palsy.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings and prognosis of patients with adenosine deaminase 2 deficiency (DADA2) and to highlight the conditions that DADA2 should be considered in the differential diagnosis in patients with neurological findings.

Methods: A case series of six DADA2 patients was presented in this retrospective, descriptive study. Clinical and laboratory data, treatment protocols, and prognosis of the patients were recorded.

Neurologic Manifestations of COVID 19 in Children: Prospective Study in a Single Center.

Background: The data related to the neurologic manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in children are limited. The frequency of the neurologic manifestations and the risk factors in the development of these symptoms are not clear.

Objectives: We aimed to determine the exact frequency of the neurological symptoms in pediatric patients with confirmed COVID-19 and to identify the risk factors for the development of neurological manifestations.

Color stability of bulk-fill resin composites exposed to caffeinated beverage: An in vitro study.

Purpose: To evaluate the in vitro color stability and surface properties of bulk-fill resin composites after exposure to coffee and cola.

Methods: Color stability was evaluated in a conventional resin composite (Filtek Z250) and three bulk-fill resin composites (Filtek One Bulk Fill, Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, and Beautifil Bulk Fill as giomer). Color change (CIEDE 2000 ΔE₀₀) was calculated after 12 days of immersion in distilled water (control), coffee, or cola (Diet Coke).

An in vitro Study on the Contractility of Epileptic Myometrium and Effects of Antiepileptic Agents on Oxytocin-Induced Contractions of Myometrium Isolated from Absence Epileptic WAG/Rij Rats.

Background/aims: The aim of this study was to determine whether spontaneous and stimulated contractile activity of myometrium in epileptic rats is different from healthy ones, and whether antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) have any direct influence on myometrial contractility.

Methods: Myometrial strips from nonpregnant and pregnant adult epileptic WAG/Rij and Wistar rats were suspended in organ bath containing physiological salt solution (37°C and pH 7.4, aerated with 95% oxygen-5% CO2), and isometric contractions were recorded.

Effect of different beverages on surface properties and cariogenic biofilm formation of composite resin materials.

The consumption of certain beverages may affect the physical and biological properties of resin composites (RCs) according to type. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the surface properties and cariogenic biofilm formation in microhybrid and nanohybrid RCs after immersion in different beverages. The effects of four beverages (distilled water-control, tea, coffee, and cola) on two RCs (microhybrid and nanohybrid) were evaluated.

Background: Although there are data showing that the frequency of hypertension increases in adults with migraine, there has been no study on this subject in children. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the presence of hypertension in children with migraine by performing ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM).

Methods: Thirty-seven children diagnosed with migraine and 30 healthy controls were evaluated between January 2015 and March 2016.

Although rare, serious adverse effects may be seen after vaccination. Especially, the whole-cell pertussis vaccine has been held responsible for neurological side effects, as the most important problem in vaccination. With the advancement in vaccination technologies, whole-cell pertussis vaccine has been replaced by acellular pertussis vaccine, and neurological side effects have been significantly reduced.

Effect of different polishing techniques for composite resin materials on surface properties and bacterial biofilm formation.

Objectives: Both direct and indirect techniques are used for composite resin material (CRM) restorations. Polishing processes are needed in both techniques after intraoral adjustment. However, it is unclear as to which polishing technique should be preferred with respect to decreasing biofilm.

Mild hypotonia and recurrent seizures in an 8-month-old boy: Questions.

Hypomagnesemia with secondary hypocalcemia is a rare autosomal recessive disorder which manifests in early infancy with generalized seizures, other symptoms of neuromuscular irritability, and growth disturbances. Homozygous mutations in the magnesium transporter gene, transient receptor potential melastatin 6 (TRPM6), cause the disease. Here, we present an 8-month-old Turkish boy with a novel mutation of TRPM6.

Effects of antiepileptic drugs on dynamic thiol/disulphide homeostasis in children with idiopathic epilepsy.

Purpose: Anti-epileptic drugs have been widely used in children with epilepsy. Although several studies have investigated the role of oxidative stress and the effects of antiepileptic drugs on several oxidative markers in epilepsy, adequate information is not available on this issue. This study aimed to investigate the changes in thiol disulphide homeostasis in children with epilepsy under two commonly prescribed AED monotherapies, carbamazepine and valproic acid.

Methods: Our study was conducted as a questionnaire study with 1200 parents. The demographic information of the participants, their answers to general questions about epilepsy, and their self-reported epilepsy knowledge scale and epilepsy attitude scale data were evaluated.
