Effects of hydrogen sulfide on relaxation responses in the lower esophageal sphincter in rabbits: the potential role of potassium channels.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is a significant physiologic inhibitory neurotransmitter. The main goal of this research was to examine the contribution of diverse potassium (K) channels and nitric oxide (NO) in mediating the HS effect on electrical field stimulation (EFS)-induced neurogenic contractile responses in the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). EFS-induced contractile responses of rabbit isolated LES strips were recorded using force transducers in organ baths that contain Krebs-Henseleit solutions (20 ml).

The association between health literacy, COVID-19 knowledge and adherence to preventive measures in Turkey.

Despite vaccination and various prevention policies, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic maintains its negative effects globally. Therefore, people must be adequately informed and put this knowledge into practice in order to take the necessary precautions. This can be achieved with adequate health literacy.

Fenofibrate attenuates asthma features in an ovalbumin-induced mouse model via suppressing NF-κB binding activity.

Background/aim: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways with a high prevalence. Asthma has a complex pathophysiology and about 5-10% of patients are not fully responsive to the currently available treatments. The aim of this study is to investigate the involvement of NF-κB in the effects of fenofibrate on a mouse model of allergic asthma.

Depression, Anxiety and State Guilt in Individuals under Quarantine in an Institution due to COVID-19 and the Related Factors.

Introduction: This study identifies depression, anxiety and state guilt of Turkish citizens kept in quarantine for 14 days in an institution where they are brought upon their request within the scope of infection control measures and the related affecting risk factors during the coronavirus pandemic.

Methods: A total of 385 individuals under quarantine for 14 days between the dates of April 20-May 21, 2020 were included in the study. The data were collected using a socio-demographic data form (age, gender, employment status, having sleep disorder, duration of television review and Internet use, etc.

Effect of peer education model on nursing students' knowledge and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS.

Objectives: This research is an intervention study designed as a single group pre-test post-test model without control group in order to examine the effect of education provided to nursing students based on peer education model on HIV/AIDS knowledge level and attitude.

Design, Methods, Settings And Participants: The research was carried out at Nursing Department of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. Sample of the study consisted of second year nursing students who agreed to participate in the study and enrolled Internal Medicine Nursing course for the first time (n = 88).

Influence of Selected Biomarkers on Stress and Alexithymia in Patients Under Hemodialysis Treatment.

Background: Hemodialysis treatment and the high stress brought about by the treatment are the circumstances which set the background for alexithymia. Alexithymic feelings basically emerge as restriction in the world of emotion and thought, and the inability to recognize physiological changes. Biomarkers that are indicators of physical change are influential in the stress lives of individuals.

Health literacy (HL) competencies vary across different health domains, and so the youth HL level plays an important role in access to healthcare. The aim of this study was to determine HL levels, the factors that affect it and health-promoting lifestyle behaviours of university students. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 905 students in nursing, law and Islamic sciences departments.

The effect of nature sounds and earplugs on anxiety in patients following percutaneous coronary intervention: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Percutaneous coronary interventions cause anxiety in patients, although these procedures are lifesaving.

Background/aim: Widespread use of antiretroviral treatment (ART) has led to decrease in the incidence of HIV/AIDS-related mortality. Knowledge Level, Attitude, and Behaviors of Farmers in Çukurova Region regarding the Use of Pesticides.

Introduction And Purpose: Farmers are particularly at high risk of pesticide exposure due to added risk from occupational exposure. The aim of this study is to evaluate knowledge level of farmers in the Çukurova region of the effects of pesticides, toxic symptoms, and protective equipment as well as assessing their attitudes and practices regarding pesticides.

Material And Method: A total of 420 seasonal agricultural workers in Karataş District of Adana Province, Turkey, were included in the study.

Objective: Migrant seasonal agricultural workers who are employed in one of the most hazardous occupations in Turkey experience difficulties in accessing health-care services. The aim of this study is to investigate the living conditions, access to health-care services, and occupational health and safety conditions of migrant seasonal agricultural workers in the Çukurova region.

Methods: Four hundred migrant seasonal agricultural workers were contacted in the county of Karataş located in the province of Adana, Turkey.

Exercise in patients with subacute stroke: A randomized, controlled pilot study of home-based exercise in subacute stroke.

Background: Physical care after stroke is highly variable. The effects of therapeutic exercise on the impairments after stroke remain unclear.

Objective: To determine whether a structured, physiologically based exercise program for subacute stroke produces larger gains than those attributable to spontaneous recovery and usual care.

Traumatic right pericardial laceration with tension pneumopericardium associated with hemodynamic instability: A case report.

Background: Pneumopericardium is a rare complication following thoracic trauma, and urgent treatment is rendered necessary when it causes tension pneumopericardium due to cardiac tamponade.

Case Report: The case presented here is a right pericardial laceration with tension pneumopericardium due to falling from a height, presenting to the emergency clinic of our hospital with hemodynamic instability.

Conclusion: Pneumopericardium that might develop due to blunt thoracic trauma can easily be diagnosed, may result in cardiac tamponade, and is a potentially fatal pathology without treatment.

Aspergillus fumigatus spondylodiskitis in renal transplant patient: voriconazole experience.

The incidence of invasive aspergillosis has increased after solid organ transplant. However, aspergillus osteomyelitis in vertebrae is rare. We report a case of aspergillus spondylodiskitis after pulmonary aspergillosis in a renal transplant recipient.

The Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) is commonly used in clinical practice for grading spasticity. However, it was modified recently by omitting grade '1+' of the MAS and redefining grade '2'. The aim of this study was to investigate the inter-rater reliability of MAS and modified MAS (MMAS) for the assessment of poststroke elbow flexor spasticity.

Serotonin transporter gene polymorphisms and sertraline response in major depression patients.

Major depression (MD) has a complex multifactorial etiology with genetic and environmental factors contributing to the disorder. As with all antidepressant treatments, there is variability in drug response due to heredity, generally focusing on genetic polymorphism of the drug-metabolizing transporter genes. The serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene is a particularly important candidate for genetic involvement in MD disorders owing to its key role in the regulation of serotonergic transmission and is therefore considered to be an interesting candidate in the mechanism of antidepressant drugs.

Effects of Onosma armeniacum root extract on ethanol-induced oxidative stress in stomach tissue of rats.

This study investigated the effects of Onosma armeniacum K. (Boraginaceae) root extract (AR-1) on ethanol-induced stomach ulcers, and on some oxidant and antioxidant parameters, in stomach tissue in rats. The results obtained showed that AR-1 significantly inhibited ethanol-induced ulcers at 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg doses.
