Validation of the Sense of Community Coherence Scale for German and Turkish cultures.

Sense of community coherence refers to how much a person perceives their communal life as comprehensible, manageable and meaningful. The study's purpose was to validate the Sense of Community Coherence Scale using two distinct groups of university students from Germany and Turkey. The scale was adapted to German and Turkish using the translation-back translation method and examined in terms of several indicators of reliability and validity, including cross-cultural measurement invariance with the data collected from 489 individuals from Germany and 533 individuals from Turkey.

Protective and Therapeutic Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma on Experimental Cisplatin Ototoxicity.

Objective: Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent with an ototoxic effect that is frequently used in head and neck cancers. There are studies in the literature conducted with various antioxidant substances to protect and/or prevent ototoxicity. This study aims to investigate whether platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has a protective and therapeutic effect on cisplatin ototoxicity.

Mechanism of ear canal button battery injury and strategies for mitigation of damage.

Objectives: In this study, the damage caused by button batteries (BB) trapped in the ear canal (EC) and strategies to reduce this damage before their removal were investigated .

Methods: After four EC models prepared from freshly frozen cadaveric bovine ears were thawed, 3 V lithium BBs were placed in the channels. After a three-hour period of preliminary damage, nothing was applied to the first EC model, the second EC model underwent saline administration, the third EC model underwent boric acid administration, and the fourth EC model underwent the administration of 3% acetic acid.

Background: Presbycusis is bilateral sensorineural hearing loss associated with the progressive degeneration of cochlear and central auditory pathways with aging.

Aims/objectives: We aimed to reveal age-related changes in middle ear function by using wideband tympanometry (WBT).

Materials And Methods: Fifty-eight patients diagnosed with presbycusis were compared to 52 audiologically healthy participants.

Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral pandemic emerging in East Asia and spreading rapidly to the rest of the world and continuing in our country. The number of studies examining the symptoms of the otolaryngology system and organs in COVID-19 patients is limited. The purpose of this study is to show whether COVID-19 infections cause any changes in nasal physiology in adult patients by measuring the mucociliary clearance (MCC) time with the saccharin test.

The Prognostic Value of Circulating Inflammatory Cell Counts in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and the Effect of Cardiovascular Risk Factors.

Objectives: Recent studies suggest that elevated neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are poor prognostic factors in sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). We aimed to investigate the accuracy of this hypothesis by taking into account the effect of cardiovascular risk (CVR) factors.

Methods: Medical records of 122 patients with SSNHL were reviewed retrospectively and grouped into 2 as; patients without CVR (group 1; n = 68) and patients having CVR (group 2; n = 54).

Is there an association between the parameters of arterial stiffness and tinnitus?

Increasing arterial stiffness is associated with atherosclerosis and there is an association between atherosclerosis and tinnitus may occur. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between arterial stiffness and tinnitus using the central pulse-wave analysis method. This prospective, single center study included 98 participants, comprising 49 patients diagnosed with subjective idiopathic tinnitus (Group 1) and a control group of 49 healthy subjects (Group 2).

Thyroglossal Duct Cyst in a 3-Month-Old Infant: A Rare Case.

Thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) is the most common congenital midline neck mass in children. It usually becomes symptomatic following a respiratory tract infection and is usually diagnosed at 5 years of age. Thyroglossal duct cyst is rarely observed in less than 1-year-old infants.
