Background: Rates of emergency action plan (EAP) implementation and compliance with EAP guidelines vary in United States secondary schools. There are limited data on emergency preparedness in schools without athletic trainers (ATs).
Hypothesis: Rural and high poverty schools have poor emergency preparedness for high school athletic events due to financial barriers and lack of ATs.
The signature feature of the 'strange metal' state of high-T cuprates-its linear-in-temperature resistivity-has a coefficient α that correlates with T, as expected were α derived from scattering off the same bosonic fluctuations that mediate pairing. Recently, an anomalous linear-in-field magnetoresistance (=γH) has also been observed, but only over a narrow doping range, leaving its relation to the strange metal state and to the superconductivity unclear. Here, we report in-plane magnetoresistance measurements on three hole-doped cuprate families spanning a wide range of temperatures, magnetic field strengths and doping.

Many cite long hours, poor work-life balance, pessimism, mean personalities, and cynicism as pervasive among surgeons and operating room culture. If allowed to persist, these negative perceptions can deter otherwise interested students from pursuing surgical subspecialties.

This study investigates the perceptions of near-peer style instruction in third-y medical students undergoing a surgical clinical clerkship. We hypothesized that near-peer instruction would provide a beneficial educational experience to third-y medical students during their surgical clinical clerkship.

Robotic platforms are becoming more utilized, however, data on its cost-effectiveness compared to laparoscopy remain controversial (1-3). At NYU Langone Health, many of the bariatric surgeons adopted robotic surgery as part of their practices starting in 2021.

However, the emergence of superconductivity at charge-order QCPs remains shrouded in mystery, despite its relevance to high-temperature superconductors and other exotic phases of matter. Here, we present resistance measurements proving that a dome of superconductivity surrounds the putative charge-density-wave QCP in pristine samples of titanium diselenide tuned with hydrostatic pressure.

Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurements of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the semitendinosus tendon in predicting the intraoperative quadrupled semitendinosus graft diameter of a posteriorly harvested hamstring autograft for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.
Methods: A retrospective review of patients who underwent ACL reconstruction with autograft using a posterior hamstring harvest was performed. Patient demographics and operative reports were reviewed, and measurements of the CSA of the semitendinosus on MRI were performed.
Introduction: Despite the groundbreaking research by Judet and Letournel in the 1960s, the specific equipment, surgical approach, fixation strategy, and post-operative course for treating acetabular fractures have not been standardized. Therefore, this study aimed to compare technological resources, operative procedures, and post-operative complications between patients treated for acetabular fractures in Romania and the United States (U.S.

While meta-analyses have provided mechanistic insight into patients with CRC, study heterogeneity has limited causal associations. Using multi-omics studies on genetically controlled cohorts of mice, we identify diet as the major driver of microbial and metabolomic differences, with reductions in α diversity and widespread changes in cecal metabolites seen in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice.

Traditionally, studies have focused on understanding how the innate immune system contributes to energy stores wasting, while the role of the adaptive immune system remains elusive. In the present study, we examine the role of the adaptive immune response in adipose tissue wasting and cachexia using a murine model of the chronic parasitic infection Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of sleeping sickness.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic may have changed perspectives on the importance of public health, it may not change educational approaches. Assessment of medical student opinions and perceptions of health policy and public health might influence the weight given to these topics in medical education.

Such a state has only rarely been observed, however, and remains poorly understood. One of the key questions is the precise origin of such intense quantum fluctuations and the role of nearby non-SC phases or quantum critical points in amplifying these effects.

Students report unique reasons for not seeking ED treatment, including the desire to solve the problem on their own (eg, seeking help from friends, self-medicating, or waiting to see if their problems improve), inability to afford treatment, lack of time to participate in the treatment, fear of seeing their primary care physician, and lack of recognition of their issues as an ED. Mobile health (mHealth) apps may be a cost-effective, helpful adjunctive tool to overcome personal and systemic barriers and encourage help seeking.

The process involved translations by professionals fluent in the target language, followed by independent back translations. Next, a committee compared the original and translated versions, pretested the final version, and concluded it.

Cooperative or physiological defenses mediate host adaptation to the infected state, limiting physiological damage and disease, without killing the pathogen, and have been shown to cause asymptomatic carriage and transmission of lethal pathogens.

The induction process and mechanistic progression of cachexia are incompletely understood. Refocusing academic efforts away from advanced cachexia to the etiology of cachexia may enable discoveries of new therapeutic approaches.

Method: qualitative study, anchored on the Thematic Analysis of Clarke and Braun, with adoption of Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical framework, since it favors the understanding of the relationship between behaviors, interactions, and social meanings. Twelve nurses recruited using the snowball sampling technique were remotely interviewed via the Google Meet® video-conferencing app.
